Avebury gets much less attention and fewer visitors than Stonehenge,
but,
at Avebury you walk amongst the stones/earthworks,
and wander through a neolithic landscape, (if you ignore the roads),
to, (but not up),
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/silbury-hill/
and go inside

I went to Bretagne camping some years ago. There was a forgotten dolmen just right there in the woods where we camped, no path or vistor signage. Amazing.
