Ah fuck, just got out of my man cave and it's fucking snowing again, mrmblgrhhmmaarrgh!

Bought a cheap alu front rack for canti mounting. Tried heating it and bending the struts to fit regular rack mounts but the tabs cracked and fell off. So now I'll try to braze them back on with some alu rods I got off ebay.

You're too kind. I'd like to point out that alu brazing is f@cking difficult, as the parent metal melts at pretty much the same temperature as the brazing rod. One side was pretty easy but I screwed up the other big time. I've learnt that once the stuff starts to melt and you're thinking "shit, shit, shit, I should stop right away" the only thing to do is to keep going and build a huge blob of alu on top of everything. Then open a beer and start filing it back to see what you've got.

Not too bad after all! You can see how the hole is much bigger on the bad side. The whole thing collapsed a bit.

If you use a hair dryer or heat gun you can usually persuade sks guards to sit right, it's gonna be a good looking bike

Thanks for the tip miitch! In rack related news, the struts turned out to be too short after all. Tired of metallurgy I moved to the field of chemistry. Bodged a sleeve and found some old struts from another rack. Epoxied all the things and fingers crossed!
