Is gas pipe seatpost a thing?
We're not even sure gas pipe stem is a thing at this point.
Kidding of course!

Anyone received a stem yet?
That was last Tuesday that Sam said my stem just needed posted and most others would be out by this Tuesday.
Probably time to email him again...

Sad face.

• #506
Nope... Not even a response to my mails.
@Tijs's remark doesn't sound like a joke to me.

Is there such a thing as a gas pipe 26.0 quil stem?
-
• #508
I don’t know whether to give him a deadline after which I’d be wanting a refund rather than the stem.
Though of course I went and paid by PayPal gift so I’ll be onto plums when it comes to actually getting a refund.
-
• #509
He'll give you a refund if you want. I'll have your stem then.

I would like the stem - even though I’m not really sure whether or not I have a use for it now - but it honestly seems like it might never materialise.
It seems like waiting this long and then not ending up with a stem would be the most disappointing outcome.
I’m trying to be nice in my emails to Sam but my patience is wearing thin and it sounds like I might not be the only one that feels that way.

I know. It has taken to long. But they are in the pipeline I know for sure. And if you do want your money back you can.

FWIW I think when the thread started I thought it was you making the stems, it now seems more like the fabrication and the delays have been Sam's responsibility.
I mention this not because I am bothered that it's not been a forumenger making the stem but rather because it seems like you are the 'forum face' of an operation which is outwith your control and this must be pretty frustrating for you.
I'm also acutely aware that as this is your thread, your probably getting pinged every time someone posts in it. Even though I'm trying to deal with Sam direct, I know you're getting caught in the crossfire so to speak.

@cryptthing Is checking with Sam tomorrow, maybe we could ask him to check for us both? :)

I need postage as I'm in Glasgow but yeah, if @cryptthing or anyone else is collecting theirs and mine is actually done and ready to go and you could be bothered, I'll paypal you the funds to cover postage fees and a couple beers or whatever for your trouble.

I don't mind answering this thread.
I absolutely love Sam and Judith at Stayer. They have become really good friends of mine over the last two years.
I did the gas pipe stem for myself and when other people wanted it I saw an opportunity for Sam to make some money and become a name at lfgss. He refused to make money off this and instead said he would do the stems for £50 which just covers materials and bills.
He is not actually making money doing this.He has never done anything like 25 stems before and I think he was surprised by the time it has taken.
I know he is working on them still and other things as well. And that's why he is not writing emails. You will get your stems and I am sorry it hasn't happened before this.

I'm sorry but I am getting frustrated over this..
You tell me to contact my builder, now you tell me he's too busy to answer our emails? And if he's surprised by the time it is taking him he shouldn't build other guys a second stem..
I've spend money on a 1" ahead chris king headset and bought another fork to extend the steerer for this stem.. A refund won't get me far.
Again, I'm sorry for ranting on in my frustration.. But I just want to know when I'm getting a £50 stem.
Or is it because he isn't making money? If I transfer some more money, is it done in a week?

I am just speculating on why this has taken so long and trying to calm people down. Why he is specifically not responding to you or M_V I do not know. Sorry
I am going to completely tap out of this now as I am just getting depressed about it all.
All I have tried is to help communication between a guy I really like and a forum I really like. But it doesn't seem to be working.I hope you get your stems and I hope Sam gets better at answering emails.
Peace

Hey @M_V and @Jaap - sorry I didn't see your updates on this thread before I left early on Saturday morning and I only had about 5 mins while I was there for a multitude of other reasons! That said, I did manage to ask about the remaining stems and Sam said there were two, in particular, that he knows he needs to resolve asap - presumably these are yours! I would suggest calling if you don't hear back in the next couple of days.
For what it's worth, Sam is a really talented dude and clearly a really nice chap - I could tell that from the few minutes I spent with him and a couple of phone calls . I'm just stoked to get a bespoke stem that doesn't cost £300+ and to have had the opportunity to meet the guy who made it and see the workshop. Thanks @Hulsroy for making this happen, and for persevering!

Thanks for asking about us! Good to hear we are on his radar.
I can't actually call outside of the EU (work phone that I use private), but I'll try to work something out and call him this week.

I don't have the will power to deal with this any longer.
If you still have a stem outstanding then you maybe interested in what Sam had to say in his reply to me.
Hi Ande
Again I am sorry for being very busy at the moment. Paying business has to come first. I will refund you and anyone with a stem outstanding and then when they reach you if you feel you still want to pay for them it will be up to you.
I can understand your frustration but also currently dont have the luxury to stop my paying work for half a day to make a custom stem for which i am getting no income from (remember we only asked for materials costs) when I have paying work deadlines to meet first. It doesn't mean it isnt on my mind it just cant be a top priority. I dont regret the project and still think things like this are important but do regret that you all weren't made aware that firstly the time frame had to be flexible and also that other business had to come first. That is of course my bad.
As I said before your needs posting I havent as yet gotten around to that as i am here in the workshop all day 6 days a week. It dosnt of course excuse not being able to make my projected delivery but is a description of the fact.
Please say where I can make the refund to. I will endeavour to get you stem posted as soon as I can and then you can decide what to do.
best wishes
SamI've told him I want either a stem or a refund, not both.

Poor guy really pains me that he didn't just increase his margin a little bit to get this done on time with everyone happy.

Having had previous dealings with Sam and Judith, all of which 100% positive, I'm a bit surprised as to how this has worked out.
Tempted to cycle over there tomorrow and ask if I can help get stuff posted.
Will do!
