  • The Fizik logos are deliberately out of phase to annoy people

  • Probably not a popular comment, but looks great even without the jelly beans. Also if that's a @hulsroy special stem looks brilliant too. Enjoy the trip!

Is this the upside down CK headset of 2018? Trendsetter, you.

  • I have for a while been planning the geo for a custom Short Person Geometry touring bike to replace Kate's venerable Ridgeback, which is much too long, and not terribly capable on the rough stuff. Was going to enlist Marino to build it, but then:

I was intrigued, and it turned out this was almost exactly the geo I'd been after, to within a few mm and half a degree on most measurements. Happy days. A deposit was hastily paid. It was only lacking a sick headbadge (and a few minor things like cable routing and useful braze-ons and rivnuts) so after pondering and discussions, I arranged the mods with Ted and started to scheme.

And now it has arrived in all of its stainless glory. Beyond excited. It's a bit nicer than a Marino...

  • The chicks seem to like it and im with them.

  • My original design:

    And the Ted James:

It's getting fat 650B rubber, dynamo lighting, stainless guards, some swag bits, and because Kate's not on trend, a pannier rack. But I have bought her a fancy stainless rack.

  • Still no jelly beans. Sorry.

  • No gas pipe stem then?

    ;-)

  • Still no jelly beans. Sorry.

  • Shit. That thing is so rad.

How much 650b rubber can it handle?

  • I reckon could get a full on 2.35 knobbly in there. Will give it a go. Gonna have Gravel King SKs at about 50mm with room to spare under the guards

  • Amaze. Stoked to see this unfold

  • Back in the house after a couple of minor alterations and some dynamo routing, and this time with some parts thrown at it. Next jobs: to find the hairdryer to remove the decals for replacement, build wheels, and acquire some of those fancy brass or stainless downtube barrel adjusters.

  • shit, between this and @Hulsroy's small bike it is really making me miss my bikes (theives be dammned... if you see any suspicious looking Ritcheys and/or a Surly purple in Norfolk in a small size get in touch) :(

This looks awesome tho. What a great find.

  • Aw fuck, that's a brutal loss, I hadn't seen that. Really hope they turn up :(

    Will keep an eye out

  • Please, PLEASE don't change the Decals on the Downtube...

  • I found the hair dryer and everything is gone.

    But not to worry

  • No time to relax this weekend. Both lab wormies and home bikes needing attention.

Had to build some more wheels with my favourite rims. @BareNecessities has a shiny new truing stand that's making my life a lot better.

Even remembered to repack and readjust the rear hub, and it's smooooooth. Life was good

  • Sunday was less good, involving judicious filing of the rear brake caliper to stop it fouling the seatstay, truing rotors, and spending at least three hours trying to get the dynamo wiring through the fork, using gear cables, homemade crimps, string and heatshrink. And copious swearing. But, success.

  • looks soooo good

  • Also took the opportunity to try the Brooks again while the stem patina* still matches it.
