  • Awesome project thread!

Made me think of this... "The Caddy!"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8hX2Ex58os

  • What's the process for getting it registered?
How can you be 100% sure you're now the legitimate owner and some pimp ain't going to come back and claim it?
I love big American cars, just not cycling behind them. First car I had in the UK was an 88 Pontiac Firebird. No where near as cool as yours though. You will weep from the fuel bills.

  • Can you put a Disc Brakes Are Dead sticker on the bumper?

  • Have you seen the RoadKill show from Motor Trend on YouTube?

  • Boot full of parts on the way...

  • Been watching gas monkey.
These cars are remarkable simple nd robust. I have faith that you can do it on the budget.
It's very big car with a lot of paint and im sure long term a respray will be a worth while investment. If you prep it and can find a moonlighter it can be cheap.

  • I like the way you started with the front bumper and lights, it's psychological. Gives you something to aim for. Kind of like when they put the eyes in the stone statues on Christmas island to give them power. Don't watch the film Christine too many times though!

  • Also been watching random American car Programs in particular the one that features Kindig It designs, they just did a two hour special on a cadillac, something to aim for...

  • ... On a cardiac!

    Freudian!

  • Only when you see the fuel bills

  • Any engine pics?

  • Great boat!
There's a similar size Cadillac convertible around the corner from me. On a disabled parking space. I sometimes wonder how a thing like that drives. Must be very calming.

Will it have 3 front seats/a bench?

  • Quality, these are the ones with the hopelessly strangled smog-spec 500 inch V8 going through the front wheels. Top yanking.

240hp apparently, that's more than I thought it had!

  • Wait. This is fwd?!?

  • Pretty sure these are FWD. Absolutely bonkers. But the engines respond really well to a few simple and cheap mods. Not that you'll ever want big power in this.

  • Not in '75. No GM cars were FWD until the 80s AFAIK.

I had the same long block V8 in my '77 Olds and the short block 350 version on 3 different cars a '68 Olds Cutlass, a '79 Monte Carlo and an '85 GMC pick up. They are good solid engines and pretty bullet proof. A carb rebuild and a new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor solve most issues. Crank shafts can be a bitch but the quality of the 70s versions were better than the 80s by some margin.

  • I'm sure I've one of these in a movie spinning away the front wheels? I guess they all look similar.

  • Eldorados were FWD from the late 60s according to Wikipedia. I thought it was only from the 70s.

  • Right so, a HUGE thank you to Sam_W for not only collecting the parts I bought last year but also packing them up for the courier to deliver to me! Most bits are much worse condition than I expected but will have to make do. First thing to do was replace the broken front grill. Then found some time to have a go at machine polishing the bonnet, looks ok from 10ft away but up close the paint is awful, still it's a step in the right direction. With a car of this size needing so much work it's very easy to lose hope that it will ever get done so even the small bits like fitting hubcaps and generally tidying her up are good motivators to keep at it.

  • Indeed it is fwd with the horribly restricted later 502ci engine and a 3 speed TH400 gearbox. All of the standard air intake stuff is missing and the exhaust is pretty rotten so i'm looking forward to seeing how far we can go performance wise as finances allow. For now will be rebuilding the original Rochester quadrajet carb and probably bodge an exhaust until I can afford a decent stainless system.

  • Whoa daddy. Subbed!

  • Put the exhaust out under the front wing just behind the wheel/s

  • Bit of an update. The cold weather has slowed progress down, but this week we managed to get the dashboard out.

  • I hope you're wearing some sort of facemask. Unless you're hoping to become a case report in some medical journal! Nice to see progress.

  • So...much...rust!

    Serious project, subbed :)

Purple respray with faux tiger leather seats and low rider suspension then? And a jacuzzi ;)
