I can tell it's some sort of deviant (currently one-legged) scout walker, but will have to google.

My wife never had Lego as a child and had often expressed an interest. I gave her the Star Wars advent calendar which she loved. In the last week of advent she mentioned she was thinking about getting more Lego. What she didn’t know was I bought her the Land Rover technic set for Xmas (back in July). The squeal of delight on unwrapping told me I had done good.
She has stolen compartmentalised trays from my workshop and sorts the pieces from the bags before buildings the sections. I am now a Lego widow.

Not quite as neat, but it's necessary to have some level of organisation

I came here to post about how the shark has massively renewed my interest in lego! Did yours come with instructions for that whale or did you make that up yourself? If so - very impressive, well done!
My 3yo son got a 3 in 1 that was the shark, a squid and an angler fish, so I’ve basically made them and now I want to get something that will take longer.
Any reccos for sets that are <£100 that I can sink a few hours into?

The whale is from an extra set of instructions that's not included in the package you can buy. Here:

It's a good set all round.

Kind of depends what you are into. Lots of Harry Potter and Star Wars around that price but they don't do it for me.
Maybe 10220 Creator Expert Volkswagen T1 Camper Van or 10266 Creator Expert NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander. Both likely to be available from your local Smyths.

Nice one. Camper sounds good

I think the camper van is going to be retired soon too
-

Is it not already? I think Smyths might have old stock.
There are various sets I wish I'd bought which are now retired. But if I'm not careful I'll buy everything to avoid further regret and that has its own problems.

I suffer from massive fomo, which is why I've spent about £1000 on Lego in the last two months. (Some of that was presents for my partner)
The campervan is listed as hard to find on Legos website which probably means it's no longer in production and stocks are running down

Doesn't that also mean that it's only stocked by a few retailers? For instance, most of the supermarkets only have the smaller sets, and some sets are 'exclusive' to larger retailers, e.g. John Lewis. The same thing happens in Germany and at a guess in other countries, too.

Ah yes, it has been retired or will be (not much time left for that) retired in 2020. Here's a list of 2020 retirements:

Bugatti for sale. £150. All there, built twice. Pretty much perfect condition.
Will take you a few days minimum.

42100 build completed, minifig from my collection - it wouldn't have killed Lego to include one 😉
