  • Those are tough old frames, but I'd be a little bit concerned about running that much seatpost.

  • Yeah it is a little scary. It’s because the bike sags down when I’m in the saddle, because of the rear-sus. Soon, I’ll get the rear sus adjusted for my weight, and then I should be able to bring the saddle down

  • You know they're not exactly designed for sitting on, right?

  • But either way, the saddle should be at the right height, no?

  • Well, the right height to not be in the way, but provide a useful point of reference and aid to control using your thighs.

    Not pedalling height

  • I have been enlightened - thanks

  • Say goodbye to your balls dropping off anything with the saddle that high

  • It’s actually not too bad. Hard to believe, I know

  • Yeah as the previous owner of that kona I can confirm it pedals way better than your average DH bike on the flat. I had it set up like this though

  • as the previous owner of that kona

Aw.. you could have brought this to Epping, rather than your mangled CX bike.

  • Haha yeah. Got it way after that and never really could use it to it's full potential. Might get a pompino in the near future so no wrecking of mech hangers possible

  • Bring both this and the Trek to an Epping forest ride and see which is better. For science

  • Sounds like a plan. @Ellis47 ride the Kona, I’ll take the Trek. For science.

  • haha, sick. want a go some time.

  • +1 to TvH, Kona in the bomb hole would be wicked

  • Forget Ellis then. Come grab the Kona and we can do some science haha

  • Anyway, to the project.

I’ve been riding the Trek around today and, surprise surprise, the brakes feel like they’re made of fucking cheese. Methinks that some TRP Carbon brakes are the order of the day for this project. For now, though, I’ve got some much newer Deore XT V-brakes for it.

  • Side note: I had this bike weighed this morning and it’s currently at 11.15kg. Definitely not a project for a total weenie, nor am I a weenie by any means, but I kind of want to see how much weight I can drop

  • Some v-brakes and decent tyres and you're good to go!

  • Still pretty light for something with bounce at both ends - even if the bounce is kinda limited.

  • Yeah it’s pretty light for full-sus, but I want to go as light as possible... for science... because reasons.

  • Full xtr but I'm not a big fan of the blue/yellow.

  • Flite, XTR, tyres fit quite well - I like it. But yeah, I’m not the biggest fan of the colour scheme.

For mine, I’m keeping to all black/grey as I do with all of my bikes. As far as carbon goes, I’ll be using 3k weave, or UD mainly, because 12k wouldn’t look as good on a 3k frame, in my opinion.

  • Let’s go mate
