Plot twist...

The DA 7300 chainset is the one where you've to use the adaptor it took me ages to find and I bought from some Russian bloke on eBay to fit normal pedals to the 6300 AX chainset that's currently on the bike...

Got any pictures of the adapter as I've not heard /seen that before
Is it something DA made ? -

Mine aren't actually the official DA ones, there's a Russian chap who makes them and sells them on eBay.
They're well made though and do the job nicely! -
• #33
That's good, I imagine the official DA are hard to track down and would be spendy

To be honest I didn't know such a thing existed until just now.

Did another thing :(

So while all of this silliness has been going on I've actually been assembling parts for a new mountain bike build since summer... I've not been in any wild rush to complete it as my current mountain bike does a great job and I love riding it but if I didn't have the urge to replace it with something swankier I wouldn't be here would I...
So here's my current mountain bike which has been keeping me going until now.
It's a 2007 Santa Cruz Nomad.1, there's a build story in this alone but I might come back to that and do a retrospective in the future.

I've wanted a YT Capra for a looong while and last summer I came across this frame a chap in Germany was selling at a price I couldn't really say no to.
The frame is going to be stripped and powder coated in RAL 1013 and I've ordered a new set of bearings from YT so all bearings will be replaced. I'm tempted to get the spec sheet and order a full set of spurious titanium linkage bolts too, it should work out cheaper than a set of new alloy ones from YT and they'll last.
My graphic designer pal is going to sort out some decals for this for me and I've decided to go with a design that's influenced by Brandon Semenuk's current Trek Session, a Land Rover Defender build by a Portuguese company called Cool&Vintage and the Patagonia logo...

The bulk of the buildkit going onto this is going to be new and the only parts that are carrying over from the Santa Cruz will be the DMR Vault Brendog pedals, a Chromag NQR seatclamp (not pictured) and potentially my Selle Italia Butcher saddle which despite not actually being the most comfortable saddle in the world I've become oddly attached to...

Then for the new parts I've accumulated...
2015 FOX Factory 36 180mm Stealth forks with Kashima coated stanchions.
2017 FOX Factory Float X2 shock, basically new, previous owner rode it for a week and then swapped it for a DHX2 coil shock.
Braking will be courtesy of a set of TRP Quadiem G-Spec brakes with 203mm TRP 2-piece rotors. These are the Aaron Gwin signature brakes, obvs he doesn't actually ever use his set but they're beautifully made and apparently lush in use.
Then for the cockpit I've got a Truvativ Blackbox Stevie Smith CoLab Descendant 780mm handlebar. I'm a huge Stevie Smith fan and I still can't believe he's gone, I wanted to pay a little tribute to him on this build. There's another little Stevie Smith tribute on here too to follow.
Chromag Ranger V2 40mm stem.
Another little tribute to Stevie Smith in this custom stem cap from Kapz.com.
Finished with a set of Sensus Swayze soft compound grips in gum finish.
Up and down action will be provided by a 9point8 Fall Line 175mm dropper.

All we're missing to finish is wheels and drivetrain. I had been planning to go for some burly cranks but I think I'm going to just leave the RaceFace crankset that's on there just for now and ride the bloody thing!
I'm a little undecided on drivetrain in the last few days after being convinced that I'd be going for a SRAM XO1 DH crankset with XX1 11speed derailleur and shifter for the whole duration of the build but I'm actually tempted to go for a Shimano Saint crankset and XTR 11speed derailleur and shifter. It might just come down to what's available at a good price when the time comes...
I've also got a new set of wheels built which should hopefully be ready to collect in the next few days comprised of Hope Pro4 32h silver hubs laced to Spank Spike Race 33 rims in Darren "Bearclaw" Berrecloth signature dark grey with light grey logos...
I really just need to strip the frame down now and drop it off to the powdercoaters and hopefully pick up the necessary leftover parts in the meantime...
Oh, and when it's done it will be getting shod with a Maxxis Shorty 27.5 x 2.5 on the front and a Maxxis High Roller II 27.5 x 2.4 on the rear.

Ohh man, so much going on! This is some proper winter project building. I'm curious to see how the YT is gonna turn out, I have a feeling it your paint job is gonna be ace!

Fingers crossed! It's all going to come down to the decals which I'm planning will be like an homage to the Supreme box logo with the box in a sort of sunset/ orange gradient/ fade and the lettering cut out to reveal the frame colour (or possibly bright white lettering) in futura bold italic.
My graphic designer mate thinks it's going to look pants and recommends a single colour box but I have a feeling it will work out. Might get both printed and see what they're like on the frame though and then decide.

In a moment of wisdom I predicted having issues with cablestops on the Koga Miyata and hopefully I've solved it before everything arrives and I have a rebuilt bike with no gearchange!
So the Koga Miyata has an aero downtube shifter boss like this...
Instead of the more usual downtube shifter bosses that go either side of the downtube like this...
I've ordered a set of these Dura Ace SM-ST74 cablestops.
So my only uncertainty is that if I mount these on the top mount downtube boss I may have a funny cable route that doesn't work out too well...
So I've also ordered one of these Origin8 Downtube Shifter Adapters.
Hopefully this way I'll be covered if the top mount boss doesn't work out... long term I'm planning to get the frame refinished after I've given it a run in with the rebuild and I'm super sure I want to keep it as is and at that point I'll get proper bosses added on and the aero mount removed.
Also, collected my brakes last night from a local chap in Dublin and everything else is ordered from eBay and hubs from a fellow forumenger. Just have to wait now! Only other thing is I want to get a Thomson seatpost (would it be a modern groupset on old frame build without one?) So I'm going to just double check to be sure I might not go for a layback one as I've always felt like I've been slamming the saddle right back in the mount to get a comfortable position... I've got an extra 5mm in the new stem which may resolve this issue though so I won't make a decision on it until I've got the stem on.

Open Pro CD x Hope Pro 3 are with the wheel builder for 3x rear and radial front for Koga Miyata.
XX1 11sp derailleur and shifter purchased from eBay and on the way for Capra.
I've also sussed a chap to sort my braze-ons before repainting the Koga Miyata.

Still awaiting delivery of rear derailleur and cable stops and my wheels will be ready to collect on Wednesday.
Until then I'm stripping off the old parts giving everything a clean.

My SR Sakae Road Champion bars were looking pretty tired and they were pretty scuffed up and scratched when I got the old 600AX stem off...
One coat of primer, one coat of satin black and one coat of clear lacquer later and they look pretty decent and fit in quite nicely with the modern groupset on old frame vibezzz.
I then fitted the shifters and the new 3t Status stem and set about cabling, my downtube shifter cablestops haven't arrived yet so I left slack on the gear cable outers to be trimmed off after.
*Apologies for appallingly blurry image. As taping bars isn't a regular occurrence for me I obviously didn't do a particularly great job, I cut the end of the left hand side tape with the angle the wrong way around AND then put the tape on the wrong way around... I've ordered some more tape (Fizik Superlight Glossy Black) and I'll redo as soon as that arrives.
I filed the rough edges off the end of this broke cable guide too before I fitted the rear brake cable. Having all of these nice new parts on my frame though is making me really want to hurry up and get it refinished and have the few braze-on modifications/ repairs done asap!
As soon as the cablestops arrive I'll get on with final assembly! I've ordered some Panaracer Gravel Kings in 26c for the new wheels. I think 28c clearance is just a bit too tight.

My flat mount Dura Ace downtube shifter cablestops still haven't arrived so I've had to resort to using the Origin8 clamp on adaptor for now. Still need to change the seatpost and I've got some tanwall GKs to put on.

Are those carbon rim specific brake pads in the rear caliper? You might want to replace them.
The DA 7300 chainset, Is that the one where you have to fit 7300 pedals ?
