  • Looks great, are you going to go with silver rims? What size of tyre?

  • Rims won't be black... But trying to avoid too much silver :) Only planning to add a few shiny bits still...

I'm looking to smoothen the ride with some fatter tires, at the moment looking like 38mm will do it - there seems to be loads of clearance so that shouldn't be an issue

  • I like this, I like this a lot.

  • Trying out the brakes... I still need to rebuild the XTR arms as I want to clean and regrease the tiny bearings in the pivots.

Meanwhile some elbow grease for the Tektro boosters... De-anodized, 240/320/400/600/800/1200/2000 grit and autosol... One done, one still to go. Pretty happy with the results even though this is nonsense details!

  • never been

  • Lovely stuff. Buttery smooth fat welds, nice graphics. I always drooled at cannondales when I was a lad in the CTC. This is a great, and considered project.

  • Well... this brake overhaul and rebuild is not the most exciting part of the project, but "needs" to be done. Lets see if I still find all 144 tiny bearing balls after all 4 arms done!

  • Brakes now finally rebuilt, like new! Seat is also a rebuild as I swapped the rubber cover of an original hollow-rails-n-cotton C15 with the new waterproof non-canvas model. Both were 2nd hand and sold the extra one (canvas cover + black frame) without loss

  • What with the rear end being a wishbone do you need the brake reinforcer doobry?

  • Would work ok also without, but I've found on my F800 CAAD2 hardtail that at least parallelogram v-brakes such as XT M750 and these M950/1 transfer so much force that even with this rear design they bend the seatstays outwards (also with the booster, but much less)... also like the symmetry and the looks :D

  • This is shaping up to be awesome. Brooks really suits it somehow.

  • A little premature but the way this is going I can't imagine I'll regret it:

  • This is so good! Can't wait to see it finished. What have you got planned for it's first tour?

  • Looking good!

  • I can't believe you serviced some V-brakes. Props to Shimano for making them user-serviceable tho!

  • Looking really dope. Why no #anopurple?

  • Anywhere but Israel... hope they find this guy and his T2000 well!

Will probably try some shorter trip to Γ…land Islands (Finnish archipelago) next summer...

  • Crank options... RS3 and RS7, both with 110 triple spiders. I really like this polished pair of RS3 - but they somehow seem bit too flimsy paired with large diameter alu tubing. Will probably save them for steel retro mtb. The RS7 are much beefier and also forged. Not sure if I should polish them as well... maybe not? Chainrings very likely to be black.

  • And pics

  • The ones on the right will probably suit the build. I wouldn't polish them.

  • Is the other set up for grabs by any chance?

  • Awesome choice of components, can't wait to see this build up!

  • ^ this.

  • Thanks! And @Ellis47 - sorry, the RS3 set not for sale...

Now installed the RS7 with 46/36/24 rings... with more budget I would have gone with TA Specilites, but this set I already had at hand... The granny is retro chromed steel from some XT M730ish set.

Also C'dale bottle cages! Unfortunately I might have a chain clearance issue with the under-dt-mounted one... possibly needs some modification, at least some extra strapping in any case for the bottle to resist gravity

Wheels and shifting up next... waiting for some spokes and a rear mech
