If he can do it, literally anyone can

nice bike! (just googled smp full carbon...the price....ouch)

The Chinese copies are "competitively priced"... Or at least, they used to be. Have become harder to find lately.

Been doing some measuring to get an idea of the geometry of my different bikes. Mostly to standardise saddle positions and then later to be a bit more scientific in my adjustments.

Hmm. Most interesting observation is that the saddle angles are virtually identical yet very comfortable on the Unit but not so much on the Eroba. To be expected, with the considerably bigger saddle to bar drop but fascinating nonetheless. Or maybe due to the difference in setback?

Shorter reach and lower stack on the Eroba, should be easy to solve with a higher / longer quill stem and a set back post to move the saddle 7 mm backwards?

Stem reach doesn't say it all though, does it? I want to do a tip of saddle to main hand position measurement to get a better metric for comparing reach.
The Eroba feels a tad too long, even with the saddle further forward than it should maybe be. And a 70mm (100mm currently) stem is underway for the Kona to see how that feels, I expect it to be better, but who knows.

The Eroba feels a tad too long
This is strange considering the Kona is way longer atm, going by the measurements of horizontal saddle to bb distance + reach
I want to do a tip of saddle to main hand position measurement to get a better metric for comparing reach.
I'd stay with horizontal saddle to bb distance AND reach in order to get everything right relative to the bb (legs to bottom bracket and the horizontal position)

Also just guessing here :) probably best to not listen to me

That doesn't take bar width into account though. Supposedly the rule of thumb in forestpeopleland is 40mm wider bars make for 10mm less stem, for example.

Boing?

The thought experiment continues, saddle to hand position figure on the Eroba is about 50mm more than on the Unit, far from conclusive but supports my current hypothesis so I'll roll with it.
Playing with a stack and reach calculator I found that the current setup of my Eroba would be virtually identical to a Moots Routt 45 in size 50 with a 100mm stem. Would give me some room for playing around before landing in chub stem territory... Main cause for worry was toe overlap, but the slack headangle of the Moot seems to sort that, not sure how it would handle though. Would be using it for a mix of road and gravel.

Boing. Also swapped the 100mm stem for a 70mm one and the 680 bars for 760. On a quick parking lot bounce around it felt like a completely different bike, very curious what it will be like on the trails. Hose is a bit short so lever angle is odd to give some extra slack, new hose is in the post.

Might reduce travel to 80mm as it is a bit overforked, but according to the internet 100mm is fine and I don't know a thing about suspension so I'll roll with it for a while.

The keen eye will spot a black saddle in this picture, the days of this horrid red saddle are almost over...

Thanks! I’m really enjoying the whole off-road thing, I’ve even bought full finger gloves.

Aw yis. Are you?
-
• #149
Yes! Wider bars (680->760) shorter stem (100->70) and different fork was very unwieldy for two rides but now it feels great. I hope to bring it to the Ardennes or somesuch later this year for some real off road riding.

Rad!
Worst case I'll just braze in a new seat tube? Can't be too hard, @Hulsroy does it all the time.
