• please please lets do a Guinness one

  • @pdlouche
Working on the assumption that you end up making these if the originator is unable to fulfill the order, did you want to cap the list at a manageable number?

  • Until we have design and pricings sorted it's difficult to know how long each will take me/others to make.

Batch mode: I'd prefer that depending on the time being sunk into this (and actual lfgss level of profit*) I can make in batches of 20 or 30 or whatever. So person 'x' until 'y' may receive theirs weeks before 'y+1' until 'z'.

Anyone beyond the first 20 names may be waiting an extra week/month, so I think the list needs to stop by 50.

A quick list count says that if everyone is limited to two or less, and the list is capped now, nobody needs to wait until 2019.

Preferably I (/we the people) only need to stitch the main shape, and people glue their toppings.

If every pizza takes me 5 minutes, then we are over 250 minutes or four hours (plus breaks is five hours). Plus setup, post office ((or a trip to London to pick up/drop off the bulk - preferably covered within costings - by national express would be like 50 or £1 extra per pizza)) means a few days of work if I must split this between other responsibilities. If every pizza takes 10 minutes, double that, and so on.

*like I said before, I'm happy to give some of my time to this, and would totally dibs excess material to cover the day(s) of work time... but there must be a significant profit to lfgss, the total raised funds need to make it feel worth sitting down and stitching 50 reflectopizzettes.

  • Oh also, anyone who can, please help me find a (wo)man-with-van to get these sewing machines back to the UK from Italy. First week of January is best.

  • I’ll ask the van guy I know but can’t make promises.
If the pieces are all pre cut somehow could they be sewn together by an idiot with a very very basic machine? If so I wouldn’t mind learning to put them together to help with future batches. I have never used a machine before tho..

Shall I edit the original post to cap the list?(looks like we’re up to 50ish now)
We can get in touch with everyone to coordinate payment etc when we’ve got the design and projected cost in place.

  • Yup I think it's best to cap the list now please.

So long as the machine is capable of going through the material then anybody can do this, if they learn to sew in a straight line. The stuff I've been doing has been on an incredibly difficult old machine, and sometimes the material can walk away from you.

  • First post edited, list is now closed.

For everyone who has added themselves, please be patient. The first step is waiting to hear back from the original safety pizza maker as to whether they’re interested in making us a batch or if not if they’re happy for them to be made over here. Then we need to finalise design, materials, cost etc

    Watch this space.

  • Heard nothing from the " Safety Pizza " people. Message has not even been read, so I'm guessing he/she is not actively seeking new orders, or even bothering to update/check their Instagram account. As I mentioned previously no new posts since October.
Does that lead us to go ahead with production?

  • As long as we’ve changed enough aspects, maybe if the ‘lfgss’ toppings are punched into the design along with changing the attachment I think we’re probably ok unless any of the Makers on here have strong objections? It’s certainly not our intent to muscle in on anyone else’s business.

  • any updates?

  • We've had a couple pm's between us but it's fallen a bit stagnant. I had to leave my machines in Italy, and I'm struggling to find a replacement here in the UK.

Thinking to buy a Chinese machine but that involves the weeks of waiting on top of risk of bad quality.

My question has also been whether it's better to stick most parts together to limit the amount of sewing needed. Cut and stuck well would still give a nice clean result.

  • Yeah my bad I’ve been lapse as well. Getting jan out the way has taken over my life. I’m up for going with the glued approach as well.
We’re yet to finalise materials/arrange laser cutting but there is a design at least.

  • What was the verdict on colour vs black and white? Sorry if i missed that

  • I have a vinyl plotter/cutter (cricut explore air 2), if materials were supplied and the cost of the cutting blades was covered (about £9 a pop i think) and we had one or two people to help streamline the cutting process I'd probably be able to assist with cutting the reflective material (max cut size is 11x11", 1.5mm thick material). n.b. actual fabric wont work in the machine as it doesnt adhere to the cutting mats well enough.

  • EDIT: We have since heard back from the original manufacturer, please ignore this post.

    Hello everyone,

I think I've managed to cobble enough together now to do a proper update.

Despite our best efforts to contact the original manufacturer we have not had a response. They went quiet for a while until there were a couple of posts from them relating to a new batch of safety pizzas in production. I have had notifications set up for new posts from their account and one morning a I woke up having missed a post by them at 2am UK time announcing a new batch available for sale. This new batch sold out in less than 30 minutes. So, whilst we have not had a response about making a bulk purchase it's also proving very difficult to actually buy one of these individually when they rarely do go on sale, due to the difference in timezone / popularity of the product.

I attempted to work up a couple of options using alternatives including a 'safety kebab' and 'safety fries', quickly learning the simple overall geometry of the pizza as well as the various topping components is far less fiddly to design and subsequently make.

I think there are 2 potential options available to us moving forward:

Option 1: DIY! I can provide a stencil to print out as well as a how-to guide allowing you to make your own safety pizza(s) using simple hand tools only with self adhesive materials, as below:

    IMG_20180207_220005056

    IMG_20180207_220001092

2: BULK! A batch production of 100, it is an adaptation of the design above with professionally printed/cut self adhesive 'LFGSS' reflective stickers. I am not able to assemble a working prototype of this unfortunately as the minimum batch from the sticker supplier is 100 sets and they cannot provide a physical sample. The base, crust and eyelets would come pre-assembled, whilst it's up to you to place the self adhesive toppings.

    Print

Each pizza would be £12.50 (plus postage), £5 of each sale goes to the forum.

EDIT: We have since heard back from the original manufacturer, please ignore this post.

  • Bulk production, sell through @dangeek 's fancy new webshop?

  • Either option fine for me.

  • I'm out.

  • still don't feel good about this, out

  • Totally in.

  • Still in. Love it, don't mind kit or bulk, I'm easy.
To those who are out due to 'plagiarism', please be advised I have made numerous attempts at getting in touch with the US pizza people, to no avail. A simple yay or nay from their end would have been something, but to not respond at all gives me the impression that they aren't that fussed, and as nobody is profiting from our small production run, I see no harm in our further progress with this project.
    Jon

  • I'm out too.

  • " Hi Jon,

Apologies for late reply. This message got buried during an Instagram update or something. Did you message on December 7th as well?.....Sheesh.....sorry again.

I've just struck a deal with a local workshop to produce larger runs and would be very happy to do an order for your club at a bulk rate. Please shoot me an email if you're still interested.

    Christopher"

So Safety Pizza guy has replied. What's next?

  • I’m happy with a bulk order if he or us can add lfgss toppings? If the money makes sense we can still donate to the forum.
