  • Things are looking up. My uni application is done and dusted and I've got 2 new projects to keep me entertained over Christmas/further distract me from my a levels.

First up, a Ribble that thinks it's a Colnago.

  • who's Joe?

  • That would be me

  • You should approve of this bike. It's getting Tiagra

  • and hopefully studs for paul racer brakes, yes?

  • No but this is getting disc brakes.

Project no 2. A 95/96 Kilauea in Columbus Cyber.

  • So Tiagra groupset is in the post and forks have been sandblasted ready for brazing. Next on the list is wheels for the Ribble. Anyone tried the new open pros or should I stick with Kinlins? Undecided about hubs too.

  • Picked the forks up this morning. I felt a bit conspicuous carrying them around all day. Anyway the technician was pleased to see me (not) when I showed up at the entrance to his den and told him want I wanted to do. He's busy the next couple of days but fingers crossed I can have a go next week. I also have a nice big mount courtesy of M_V to help distribute the extra forces.

  • Interesting stuff about brazing on that disc tab. And are you going to remove the colnago decals on the road frame? Paintjob is awesome.

  • Thanks. The frame is known to a few people found here and the last two owners haven't seen fit to remove them so I don't think I'm going to either.

  • The groupset has arrived. I'm quite pleased with how it looks.

  • Neo retro build always look so good with that gunmetal(ish?) Shimano on em, leave the decals, who cares if its faux. Looking good so far!

I have a pair of wheels for ya.
    (Cosines)

  • Cheers @hp93. I think I'm going to build a pair for this. Choices are silver novatecs on kinlins or the grey tb14s or hopes on r460s or the new open pros. The latter probably won't look as good but they'll sound like a swarm of angry bees and they'll be future proof.

  • Starting to look a little more bike shaped.

  • Did you use Vaseline in the seat tube?

  • That Colnabble is rad - I love it, wish I could build something similar. Subbed, and it fully deserves a place here

  • @PhilDAS No it's carbon gripper paste. It's weird stuff.

@kimchi Thanks I took a lot of inspiration from that thread. Unfortunately I'm about to ruin it with a pair of mismatched wheels. I've got these beauties from @Mr_Bump to build up but no funds with which to do so right now and I want to get it done by Christmas.

  • Change of plans the Kona is going up for sale (probably for the best really...) and I will be replacing it with a Surly 1x1 :)

The Colnabble is getting there slowly. I spent Christmas Eve sat on the floor in the kitchen lacing up the rear wheel (hope pro 4 on an open pro). It's very shiny. Only thing I need now is a spacer to put a 10 speed cassette on an 11 speed hub but the bike shop near me doesn't reopen until the 8th!

    How come?

  • I bought a Surly.

  • I finally got round to finishing the Colnabble last night. Bike building makes for excellent post exam stress relief. I'll take some pictures when we get a dry day. Unfortunately there's snow forecast for tomorrow. What I really need is something that can take a few days of shit weather, or a day trip to Cannock or just to go to the shops on in the snow. In other words, a Surly 1x1.

  • So this is what I've got so far. Yes you recognise the forks. And in case you don't, they're @hoops 's work. They look so good. I've also got a pair of steel forks on order from Orlowski. I may have overstretched myself here but I got the frame cheap and I've always admired his work so this felt like the perfect excuse.
