kinlin adhn are available in silver and a third the price.
for the difference you can buy a semi decent truing tool (i have a minoura one) and if you have the time and patience build them up yourself! -

lovely frame/biek btw. i miss my claud butler not claud butler but 1" threaded steerer is something that should stay in the 1900s, and ive gone all modern and crabonz

My LBS want £8 to unlace then £25 to build up fully or £15 just to tension.
So I’m only saving £36, but I quite like tinkering with wheels.
I looked at the Kinlins but prefer the TB14s and decided just to suck it up. :(

It is surprising how long folk put up with creaky bendy bars for.

Good price. Twice that in this here London for wheel building.

Srs? £50? You can get an MA for less than that.

If you haven't ordered the rims yet, also worth looking at the Velo Orange PBP. Mine have taken some proper punishment over the years and I've probably put about 11k miles commuting on them now. I was going to say they are a bit cheaper, but looking at prices they're about the same.

Bike looks great. Was gonna suggest TB14's, modern yet classic like the gasburners on your T2!

Oh, and the wheels are built.
I need to therefore get some tyres. Gumwall 25s I reckon.
Anyone have any experience of Clement Stradas?
I like the darker colour of the Veloflex on my fast bike over the Panaracer on my ficksey but they puncture too easily.

Love the VW! And bike.
I've had 25mm Clement stradas on my road bike for two years, no punctures. Lots of hate online towards them but I've no complaints.

OTOH very few tyres puncture if you only ride them once a month tops... Facepalm.gif

Whilst working out the appropriate brake to fit it occurred to me that I had an old Campagnolo brake in my parts box that I took off my Rory O’Brien / Vitus 979 because it looked too old.
I dug it out today:

The paint is generally very good for 40+ years old.
The worst bit is on the seatpost lug:

Tomorrow’s job is to remove the rust and apply some primer.
I’m hoping that with some careful masking and colour matching I can just paint the lug...
Bear in mind that all LBS I spoke to said that they charge no less for truing and tensioning wheels laced by someone else than for lacing them themselves. I can see why. The lacing is really only about 5 percent of the effort and is an opportunity for a punter to cockup.
I went for a compromise of lacing them myself and then finding a friend who knows what they are doing to true and tension them for me, whilst I watched and occasionally had a go myself. I also provided the beer.
If truing stands were less expensive I'd have done it all myself.
