Workshop...in progress...

  • As feared, there isn’t enough run-off on the back of the shed. I wasn’t confident about the design but kept my mouth shut until ‘proof’. Have been checking the walls and after the last 12 hours of rain the inevitable ... the walls felt wet on the inside, on the back wall. Biggest fear so was anticipating it.

Anyway, here it’s pretty obvious why. The shed company made excuses but will come out and fit some kinda angled baton next week ‘asap’.

  • I can’t fit behind the shed or it would be tacked to the fence, my stop-gap solution was to use a few big pieces of truck tarp, which is heavy enough and solid enough not to bow under weight of rain.

Slung over the fence for now. Will try to manage that. Only needs to last a week, or ideally just the weekend. Just try to reduce the water running straight down the back wall.

Ideally next week they fit a nice wide baton, and then we possibly also fit plastic guttering to direct the water away completely.

  • Received a bulk of these today, 20mm. ITW sternum clip assembly, integrated whistle too.

An alternative to the 25mm underarm strap setup I was making already, I’ll have to redesign a little to make it work. Otherwise, stored safely for the eventual backpack redesign.

  • Then these two today, using much thicker brown leather, originally upholstery from a couch I think. Insides are, like the above ones, vintage fabrics. These have snap fasteners that look much nicer but are less convenient/effective than velcro.

  • Went to Oxford to meet with @jzk this afternoon (great to meet you!)

Had a good walk around Oxford all afternoon wearing the leather musette, jam packed. Tool roll, pouches, wallet, chocolate, A6000 in a case... really overfilled but surprisingly comfortable and worked well.

@ᛠᛙᚺᚣ✻ᛕᛙᚺᛥ ‘s favourite too, the A6000 is in an Op/Tech pouch...!

I’ll be making a dedicated pouch/slip case for the A6000 this weekend.

  • By the way I like the "chunky pink" ones above!

  • Busy day...!

Got a lift to collect curtainsider sorted by a particular forumer (thanks!) whilst an electrician fitted some power into the shed. Cycled back from the delivery depot and passed a bouncy castle/kids play rental place.

So guess who had to scoot home, grab the trailer, and go pick up one of three nice big mixed colour pieces of plastic??

More to collect tomorrow as well, but that means I now have bright yellow, red, orange, blue and soon black and dark green, all in very limited quantities!

  • Bit tough to show the reflective potential, but here’s a tool roll for a forumer that asked for a second one as soon as I had reflective stuff. This uses a particular cut of blue material, but inside out. No idea why it’s so reflective. Detailing maybe.

Bouncy castle is air permeable, tiny air holes on the surface, so it’s lined with red cordura.

  • So many false starts today. Just not the day to make anything. Eventually ended up with this.

Prototype, upholstery leather outer, recycled strap and buckle, and curtain inner. Just trying to see what shape might work. It has a thin layer of padding inside as well, to protect the camera. Stitching is wobbly, very difficult to get it nice and clean how I’d like.

Made to fit the A6000 with the 25/1.8 manual lens. Probably fit most small lenses.

  • These are great!

  • So, mkII was a couple hours this morning...

I used an old silk waistcoat for the inner lining, so super smooth and soft, and conveniently houses a pocket.

First, draw up the pattern on the leather (from a coat), the thin padding (from the lay-z-spa base), and the waistcoat.

For the waistcoat I wanted to maintain its original structure and lining for added depth, as a thin layer of silk would be too little on its own. I stitched along the pattern lines before cutting, to hold it all together.

Next, sew the leather and padding together.

After that, sew the lining to the shell.

  • At this point I was very tempted to leave it without the line along the edge, that makes it look ‘finished’. But it got the better of me, so blue thread inside, black outside.

  • I haven’t attached a permanent closure to it yet, may attach black webbing + buckle, or continue with a slip of elastic. I want it quick to open, thin and light, no extra leather buckle as it is too slow for grabbing out the bag.

The elastic here is a little tight so the leather is bunching, but it should be clear how it closes, and the angle to the top and bottom, to reduce wasted space inside.

  • Bit scrappy, but a bouncy castle prototype ultra slim wallet. Already had similar for myself in leather, but in plastic is ultra slim.

Two separated card pockets and a coin pouch.

    Ideal cafe run wallet?
