  • Cav totally outclassed. He sat up with 25m to go.

  • Such a shame. Gavi’s the new blood.

  • The super slomo shot of the finish is amazing. The cheering crowd seem totally still in the background as the riders move past. So cool.

  • Glad to see Greipel be competitive, in stage 1 it looked like he didn't have much form.

  • Definite end to Cav's era

  • I really want him to win a stage, a joy to watch him beast it. But Gaviria is gonna clean up

  • That was some sprint!

Gavaria is on fire, he starts his sprint from so far out I always expect hes gonna blow

  • I wonder if Merckx is watching with a smile.

  • Definitely.

Anyone else spot that Ava’s doing sponsors proud? He’s got that ultra weight penalty Tag on during the stages.

  • At least Cav is still king of the interviews.

Fingers crossed he keeps going and finds form.

  • He always used to take a few stages to get going, even in his pomp.

I thought Gaviria would take his mantle at some point, it looks like that time is now.

  • I'd like to think he's saving his energy, i.e. if he's not going to win, theres no point in tiring yourself out. Looking forward to seeing him bawling his eyes out later on in the tour.
He is probably suffering a bit from not having Eisel with him this year.

  • This. Cav always starts slow and Quickstep's train is ridiculous. He said he got boxed it. Never write off Cav.

  • He’d never have used a shit excuse like that in his prime.

I’m cautious to write him off, as he’s shown time and time again that he thrives on adversity, but his record in the past two years strongly suggests his time has come.

  • You take that back!

  • Fun fact: Bernal was ahead of Cavendish in the sprint.

    Cav's finished. :)

  • Right I am putting a mark on both of you

  • Sad for Cavendish. I don’t think he’s got the legs or the team.

I thought QS had gone too early. Richeze did that monster turn as last man and Gaviria still had a huge way to go. Impressive to hold on.

  • Surely you can't write Cav off after the two years he's had. Sure he hasn't won much but he's been ill for months, hasn't completed a grand tour for ages and sprinters need the form and miles in the legs. He is still probably the greatest sprinter to have ridden the tour and can still win the odd stage or two in a Mcewen style as there's no way his lead out train can match the others. He's always been happy to ditch his lead out if there's a better wheel in the past, this year might just be a bit soon for him after having such a stop start career for the last two years.

  • Dads can't sprint

  • He backed off the second it got a bit grippy the way he never would have done 10 years ago because he's grown up and had a kicking and thats death for a sprinter.

  • I'd say he just wasn't on the right wheel, Kittel sprinted and only came 5th, is he finished too?

  • I knew something had been holding me back.
