I think they need to ban alcohol. Seems the sensible step. Barriers or any other block wouldn’t be needed if people could be sensible and respectful. A lot of people spend all day getting pissed up, banning alcohol will be a big step forward.

They also need to identify and make an example of (fine, community service) a few idiots and people will get the point it’s not tolerated. The person that knocked nibali off should be prosecuted for assault.

Also, there's plenty of sober people doing dumb shit like taking selfies standing in the road. I'd ban any prick that turns their back to the peloton before I banned booze (well, of course I would).

Wasn't it a kid that hooked Lance's handlebars and dropped him years ago, in almost the same way Nibbles went down? Pretty sure that kid wasn't three bottles of vino into the day.

This lot of fans look pretty tame.

Great shame Nibbles has gone, he rode that last 4k with cracked vetebrae, cannot have been fun.

I fear that may be the last of the cobbles in the Tour, at least for a while and if they do it certainly will be a gentler version of it, it proved too attritional, several riders climbing off their bike because of injuries sustained on that day. Splendid spectacle.

The crowd yesterday put England fans celebrating a win to shame. INRNG questioned whether the Alpe should even be in the Tour anymore, with the fans being so numerous and uncontrollable, and the fact it isn't even a very good climb, basically a coach road (his words, not mine).

As for the rest of the race I hope Dumoulin makes a race of it, as well as someone, anyone from Movistar (what the hell has happened to Quintana? He's a shadow of himself) and Roglic.

Two big contenders - Porte and Nibali - have crashed out.

Two other people cited as contenders before the race began- Quintana and Landa - look short on form.

There is a long-ish TT to come which should relatively suit him.

Only one more mountain top finish left.

Of the 100 odd editions of Tour de France, over 80 of them have included cobbles. Not having them is abnormal.
