Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
I’m hoping that some tweaks to my Straggler will scratch the itch for an Evasion but I’ll have to wait and see. I’ve got another 15,000km of touring to do before I’m back in London so the whole situation is a bit of a moot point right now.
Every day I’m dreaming of having more squish…

Øhh wow. Sounds like you are on a good adventure!
Every time I've gone for bigger tyres i feel they are slower, and when I go back to smaller tyres I feel I need more squish... Only solution is to have multiple bikes and find a way to ride them at the same time :)
Also if you are underbiked once in awhile it is certain to be the best kind of ride imo

I’m definitely stuck in a grass is greener phase at the moment. Mainly because we’ve been forced to stop riding for a few weeks so I’m filling my hours staring at my diminutive 40mm tyres and yearning for more squish.
Once we start riding again I’ll spend less time thinking about bike nerd shit and just enjoy the views.
I need to remember that in 3 months of riding the Trans Mexico route I got 2 pinch flats and only got close to losing traction a handful of times.

Random stuff today as I work my way back into the groove after a week off after having a wisdom tooth removed.
Started working on a 24mm spindle for some custom cranks for my daughter. Gonna reuse a Tune 94bcd spider from some cracked cranks and adapt for my own BMX style dog bone cranks. Fillet brazed! This will allow me to purchase a Stridsland 32t chainring for more likes and followers.
Also started a stem for Pas Normal chief designer... It's guaranteed to create some content!!
Finally I did some sketches to convince @Tijmen that we need a gravel diorama for his MTB stand at Kolektif. This is likely to explode the internet I reckon

So it's like a bonsai -zen garden thing that captures the essence of the roads travelled and the yearning for future shreds. Each one as unique as it's owner.

If that convinces Mr Witslingers then sure 😊

The exhibition manager is hard work but I think this render speaks volumes of the impact this show stand might have on the gravel segment

Small but non-zero possibility of making it look like a big cat litter box.
-
• #7288
I can't see how that might be a problem

It's a self esteem thing really, I worry I will make it look like OSB with sand glued to it instead of a diorama ✨. But Mads says I need to believe in myself, so I will bring an artisanal gravel collecting pouch on my ride today and do a small test piece this week.

Then it is a plan with no drawbacks. Diorama should include tyre tracks for realism.

I two weeks time we will realise how an insane waste of time this was

you should do this, it will be very good, if you can 3d print/ find rocks which look like a mini stone henge / utah rock formations it would sell itself

Re: aestethics - could you not bring a box and fill it with loose sand/gravel and not glue it down?

There's not nearly enough animatronics at bike shows

Yes. This is a fair point.
Exactly that. At the time every one that came back into the shop was owned by somebody that wished they’d either bought a Sequoia if they wanted a lumpy touring style bike or a XC bike if they wanted a more single track ’rig’ but the A-Hole was too far away from either to bridge the gap. If you tried to do the former you were disappointed, if you tried to get too gnarly they broke. Although in fairness I used to try to sell them Surlys or Genesis’ so I have no right to judge (I also still have a Sequoia which I really like …)
