  • Template made. Went for 45 degrees in the end, because it'll suit the width of the roll of material better.

  • Has this been resolved yet?

  • Does anyone who diys carbon danger parts just vanish into thin air?

  • Nah, I’ve just been a bit short of time trying to win races and I got a bit distracted making an all-carbon fibre Mk1 Cortina Scalextric car. I’ll get on it.

  • Do you work for the Red Bull F1 team? That car is awesome!

  • Cheers, yes I do.

Couple more shots of the Cortina. This one went to my dad and I’m in the middle of an identical clone so I can race him. Took a mould off a 1/32 scale Scalextric Cortina. Ladder chassis is in an R&D material, so it’s more advanced than what’s on our F1 car. Chassis weighs 3.2g and the body weighs 7.8g. All the weight is in the motor and wheels.

  • Not going to say where I work

  • Wicked, can I get a redbull hat please?

  • Lol, forgot I said that!

  • I love stuff like this. That Cortina is brilliant.

  • What's the 20" wheel for? A kid's bike? Brompton/folder?

  • I part-scratchbuilt a Raleigh Twenty clone a while back, using a slightly modified rear triangle off a Universal shopper. It’s all due a tidy up and a rebuild and the wheels have long expired. 20” disc is going on that. If I get time I’d quite like to do a 10” disc for my boy’s balance bike as well.

    Pics?

  • Please make a full carbon Brompton

  • Pedal clearance looks somewhat tight.

  • Sadly, I’m going to sack this project off. Lack of time, mostly, but I’m also moving on from the team to do something else. What I’ll need to do is talk the new lab into recommissioning their ancient autoclave...

  • Saw this the other day, at the risk of sounding like a trainspotter with a flask of weak lemon drink, it was very interesting... Amazing how much energy it gobbles up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ki1aCdkMSeo
    Cortina is mindblowingly good.

  • Change of plan, we’re back on.

Couple of bits of good material popped up in the scraps bin; some woven T1000 and UD M40J, both in a tough resin. M40J is a mostly outdated fibre but it can take a battering, doesn’t delaminate and it’s mainly here for visual purposes. T1000 is plenty strong enough to handle the rest. It’s slightly bowed because of the UD/woven interface and the fact that it’s only 0.7mm thick, so it will need to be bonded to a flat core.
