So just wanted an opinon from experienced painters on here. I have a Keith Coppell frame which I sent to be resprayed by Ellis Briggs. I sent it away and it was sent back about 8 - 9 weeks later. I was aware that this would be the time scale on average due to seeing this information listed on their website.
On receiving it there was a lot wrong with it. One of the colours was incorrect, the lug lining colour was also incorrect and they had fitted a Tange headset that wasn't even mine and not returned my original one either.
I expressed that I wasn't happy with the service and they agreed to pick up the frame and rectify the issues.
Since then it has been just shy of 6 weeks and I still don't have my frame back. I have phoned and left my number as tbe relevant person has not been there to speak to on multiple occassions. I barely ever get a call back and have been doing all the chasing.
I called yesterday after being told, it'll be collected from the enamellers ( which I'm aware is contracted to Bob Jackson) on Friday, which was supposed to be the previous Friday and it goes on. When I got through and complained I was told that basically it takes as long as it takes and 'people just think we need to spray it with a lick of paint', which I know is not the case.
I know there's blasting, priming, sanding, painting, curing, sanding, paint ect as well as clear coating, transfers and reapplying due to cutting any peel or dirty and so on. Was a little insulted by that but I'm sure they get it all the time.
What I'm basically asking is, are they taking the piss? I don't feel I've been prioritised due to the initial problems and seem to be waiting the same amount of time again.
Any in put greatly appreciated.
Also, do most of you guys use Devilbiss?
Many thanks!

Regarding rust in frames can one not pour in some jenolite/kurust, possibly block up the openings on the frame and rotate the frame through various positions to coat the insides? probably the next best thing to a full acid dip.

Was looking to buy some of this as well but don't want to wait for delivery, anywhere nearby sells it? Found a place in Romford, but South London would be better

I really like the idea of bespoke paint schemes and some of the examples here are fantastic. I'm considering building up a second hand carbon frame for next summer, probably a SuperSix, but just don't like the excessive branding. So, what would be the process - simply over-paint the frame or would it need to be stripped first, and if so how? And are there any considerations when looking at second hand carbon frames from a re-painting perspective?

Remove all parts
Bathe it in bleach overnight
?????
Polygons errywhere! -

Take the frame to a painter, they'll remove the original finish (usually by hand with abrasives) and start from scratch.
Second hand carbon is second hand carbon... you can't always know what the previous owner did to it/with it.

How likely am I to die if I use plastikote on an EPS shell helmet? Would obviously attempt to mask off any exposed stuff, but will it seep through the shell to EPS inside?

Thanks, subsequent googling has come up with exactly same advice both on painting and reliability or not of second hand carbon.

A bit of spam here.
We painted this at CCW a good couple of months ago and the images have just surfaced so I'm sharing. Sorry if you've seen it elsewhere.
The beach image was the customer's reference.

Thanks a lot man.
Yeh.
It's all paint.
It's done with 'marbling'.You're right though... in places, it does look like a PRS finish or something similar.

I'm really struck by it.
Marbling like a dip job? Or like when you Ice party rings.
I understand if it's patent protected tattoo invite only trade secret. I'm not gonna try it, just interesting int it -

Neither of those two methods.
You lay down the base colours and allow them to dry, then you apply the 'marble' colours over the top and whilst they're still wet you move them around and leave impressions on them with plastic bags, clingfilm, PVC sheets, that sort of thing. To do a whole bike, you need a few sets of hands though!
It's a faff but it's worth the effort when it comes out well.

Ooh.. I didn't know you did stainless main tubes now
-
• #323
Wait, don't you hate polishing?
-
• #324
Yes to stainless, and this is brushed not polished which is much quicker and also lighter.

;)
Nitromors is terrible for bikes, great for flat planes.
Wholely agree with going to the chemical source, soooo cheap, many strips, much easy.
