  • I've only been riding them for a couple of weeks so can't really comment properly. They don't seem to mind loose roads and maintain speed pretty well once you get going so no real complaints. I'd take a mark of for ugly graphics though. The gumwalls look great on this colourway but I ended up with these ones.

  • unfortunately with severely stuck seatpost. which is irritating.

  • Same colourway as mine. Looks really good mate. Shame about the seatpost. LBS looked at it?

  • nah, i've got previous on stuck posts though. tried almost all the tricks on it, it's properly wedged. just plucking up the courage to saw it out. i'd leave it as is but it's about 10mm too low. annoying to have to destroy the thomson post, but maybe an excuse for a carbon upgrade.

  • thomson post ... carbon upgrade.

    Ermmm...

  • sidegrade? I was never super keen on the layback Thomson aesthetically anyway...

  • Depends on what terms you’d be upgrading. Thomsons are relatively light and pretty stiff. If you’re looking for comfort, carbon would be an upgrade

  • True.

Just in terms of build quality, aesthetics (subjective) and engineering, I think it’s hard to beat a Thomson.

I’ve never needed to get comfort from my seatpost though so...

  • Never “go in dry” :-/

I’ve put gt85 or gripper paste (if I have some) into the seat tube. I’m not sure that’s best, but it seems to work.

  • carbon could be an upgrade

    ftfy

  • Pedants gonna pedant

  • Don't start the lubricating carbon posts debate...

  • whatever i put in is going to be an upgrade compared to something that doesn't move.
probably going to get a deda for matching collar and cuffs.

  • Ok. Don’t forget the margarine this time.

  • No no, margarine will delamintae the carbon, it needs to be grip paste.

  • No it doesn't, grease can't delaminate carbon coz science.

  • Stop it!

  • I finished my new Vagabond frame build this morning.

fairly basic but quality build - rolls and climbs well and plan was for it to be easily repairable pretty much wherever it takes me.

    Raceface aeffect cranks & ring
    candy bros pedals
    sram 10-42 cassette
    slx m7000 rear mech
    micro shift thumb shift
    avid BB7 brakes
wtb i29 asyms laced to hope pro 4 hubs
    wtb rangers 2.25"

  • Nice build! Looks good with the inverted bars!

  • thanks - yeah -looks better but not sure re comfort, will have to see

  • Are those On-One mary bars?

  • ergotec aerowing II

  • have you tried jamming it upside down in a grid outside and twisting the whole frame? managed to free my post recently doing that, didn't even wreck the clamp just bit into it a lot

  • not specifically, but i have had a 10ft long pole attached to the top of the post and couldn't get that to move...i've even made a 'post puller' device thing - that didn't work either.
i think cutting is my only option at this point.

  • What's going rate for a 725 croix de fer frameset. The metallic orange one with the carbon fork?
