  • True, but Since it's a (2011) frame set, I decided to go with the old logos. Can't change it, clear coated over the logos.

  • Base coat dried for about 24 hours before adding the crackle. I crancked up the heat to about 30 Celsius. But the Montana paint dries quite quick anyways. The crackle paint (again, Montana) dried 24hours. Then 3 coats of clear on top of the decals. 2 min between the coats of clear. Again warm room, with pre heated rattle cans. Put them in medium warm water after shaking them. (Paint flows better.) I Also gently sanded with 800 grit paper where the decals was added before putting on the clear.

  • Forgot to post the painted top-cap. The crank is done. Thinking about de-anodizing the red anodized parts on my avid ultimate brakes.

  • Already clearcoated over the decals. Won't be a big of problem. Running 1x with a 38toooth chainring. But It's going to look a bit off center.

  • Thanks for explaining your method, looks great.

  • Thanks for going in detail about the painting process, might have to give rattlecanning another go in the future.

  • Thank you for explaining this, it's really helpful and the frame it looking brilliant. How many cans did you use? I have literally no experience with this so forgive me if it's basic knowledge! Do you think this can this be done on steel frames?

  • Looks great, chapeau; how flat is the final coat, does the clear coat smooth out the crackle texture?

  • I wasn't sure. But then I was sure. Amazing paintwork! I won't miss you at a CX event. Chapeau.

  • sweet

  • One last question about the method -
How many tins of paint did you use on each coat (Base, colours, crackle etc)
    Thanks

  • Paint looked a bit odd after the crackle, but it looks fantastic now it has the clear coat shine good job!

    I like the decals too

  • Nice. Like the tiger bread finish.

  • You mean giraffe bread?

  • Nope, I mean tiger bread. Where the fook sells giraffe bread?

    Edit: Sainsburys rebrand.

  • Giraffe bread is renamed Tiger bread from Sainsbury's
    @jontea

  • Fok off with the giraffe bread nonsense. Waitrose does tiger bread.

  • 2 cans of colour, 1 can of crackle paint and 1 can of clear. Did only use 1/2 of each of the colour cans. The crackling effect depends on the thickness of the coat. So still have some of it left.

  • You need to lay down a really thick layer of clear to smooth out the crackling.

  • Thanks man, really would like to have a go myself!

  • Any update on this? i d love to see a build up pic of this

  • Sorry for slow updating. Been busy the last weeks. Only need a new saddle.
