  • Thanks for posting this route up, did it with a mate yesterday. Getting out of London wasn't all that bad and after that it was glorious, lanes and sunshine all the way.

Hats off to the guys doing reps of the Ditchling!

  • Thank you all for your help on this.

Took the route to Brighton with girlfriend and her brother. Started at Wimbledon and used a combo of number of routes above. Left the busy roads at Coulsdon I believe and from then on the route was stunning. Country roads, quiet lanes the lot. This is the furthest my girlfriend and I have cycled and Ditchling proved a step too far (I ended up in a ditch close to passing out on the final false flat) but it will be conquered another time.

Brighton was fairly grim as it was a hot bank holiday Sunday so didn't hang around.

Thanks once again for help. We have donated to the forum as a thanks for All your time and effort. Will be doing this again

  • Excellent, I expect that was a lovely day.

  • Great, glad the lfgss hive mind helped provide a nice day out

  • y u no A-roadz? : )

Next time: When you get to Brighton seafront, head a little further down the drive towards the marina and try the beach at Yellowave (beach volleyball courts). A much more mellow vibe, loads more room, plus the swimming is better too.

Yes, Sunday was grim in town, but Sunday was the best beach day all summer up to that point (Monday was even better!).

  • Ah ok I didn't know that. Probably should have asked before I went! Will check out next time which will hopefully be very soon

  • Lewisham to Brighton using the Mashton route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/24355488

  • @youramericanlover we had a superb spin out to Brighton yesterday.. arrived to glorious sunshine on ditchling beacon among thousands of charity riders.. followed by fast decent, then crocodile sandwiches, chips and bier on the seafront.. el Classico was perfect in every way

    except you weren't there :(

  • Ah thanks @almac68 - glad it was a good run, looked like the perfect day for it.

In the background of the photo you can see a buggy - imagine that is me and you have a perfect metaphor.
