  • A place name search would be good and possibly a distance search.

So if i typed in 250 into the distance search it would take me to the 250 km point at a set zoom level, something sensible.

Would make finding sections a LOT quicker, if possible.

  • No luck in incognito. Just using ff.

Damn. Works here in incognito chrome on a mac, and that "should" be almost identical. I'll try some other computers to see if I can replicate. Only thing I can think is that something is blocking the cookie that Strava/Cloudfront is setting.

If you're in chrome, right click and choose Inspect. Then switch to the Console tab.

Load https://routecheck.cc/ without being logged in, and the console should show:

with no heatmap. All those 403s show the heatmap tiles failing because you're not logged in.

Log into strava then reload Routecheck (hold Shift key while reloading just to be extra sure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) and the console should now show:

    with the heatmap layer showing.

Yeah, location quick search wouldn't be too hard. I don't get the distance search though - do you mean it would set the zoom level to be 250km across? Or jump to the 250km point along the current gpx route?

  • Jump to 250km on the current loaded route. At a sensible zoom level that allows you to see what’s going on in the locality.

It’d be a neat feature. You could show rwgps a thing or two!

  • .

  • What I get,. in incognito.

  • Are you from Albuquerque?

Haha, no. And again, that's weird as heck. It saves the default location whenever you load a GPX route, so it should open at roughly that region on each visit. Same in firefox or just chrome?

Pants. That just looks like the cookie didn't get set (the 401 Unauthorized line item) .. but that /auth test page you hit suggests it did.

So annoying strava don't have a proper auth flow for the heatmap, just this cookie hack. Sorry man.

  • No worries. I’m using Firefox for it any it’s working fine.

However when I refresh the page, it seems like it looses the authentication with rwgps as I have to logout and log back in, as the routes in the route box all disappear.

  • Perhaps my vpn is playing havoc with that function. I always get alberqueuqe. No bother as if I open a route it takes me to it.

  • Hi @yemble, would like to offer my thanks for coming up with this kick ass tool. It's saved me from routing down some very busy roads. You should put a donations link on the site so you can receive some monetary love for this. My route planning would be fucked without it.

  • Hah, the UI is cluttered enough already :) Really glad it's getting use - cheers! It doesn't get promoted anywhere else really so bit of a LFGSS secret for now, but feel free to share it.

As before I'll not touch the code during TCR just in case anyone is using it in a pinch.

  • I’m conflicted about sharing, on one hand it’s amazing and more people need to know. On the other I feel it’s too good an advantage to share. Ha.

    Sorry! :)

  • I haven't used it much. I'm resigned to the fact I will end up riding goat tracks.
But I'm still not sharing it :) Power to the lfgss!

  • Haha - bastards :p Have a good race.

  • great site Yemble. Can you add campsites to it or is that hard to do?

  • I'll check the OSM site.. it's pretty easy to add any category they have.

Yep, doable. Need it urgently? Might bundle it with some other POI stuff.

  • No, not urgent at all, was just exploring the site yesterday and had the thought.

  • Plz don't break the site in the next few days. I'm not done yet!

  • how maneey bitcoinz i pay u 2 shutt down?

  • * looks at household student loan debt *

    About a dozen 😬

  • Would it be possible to add satellite images as one of the options for maps?

  • Yep that doesn't look too hard. There's a Leaflet plugin that brings in all the google layers including the nice terrain map and satellite.

  • Oh my god, I've had that ^ plugin info tab open in my browser for 10 months. I'm the master of procrastination.

  • Would it be possible to add satellite images as one of the options for maps?

    Added, along with road/terrain etc.
