• Two steps forward and one step back

New shoes, but being practical (boring) the clearance is probably way too tight with 2.3"-2.35" tyres

  • Looks like the Panaracer Dart/Smoke might be my next best option at 2.1"

  • Found out a few things today:

    1. 2.1" fit perfectly
    2. I hate cantilever brakes
    3. I like fourth hand tools
    4. I think I might need some risers

New cables, outers and canti cable hangers arriving this week to sort out the current mess of cables

  • Some new bits for the MTB

  • this rips B)

  • I hate cantilever brakes

If anyone says they like setting them up, they're lying.

  • Not looking as wanker as I wanted, but lots of new bits

  • And looking a little worse for wear after a bone rattling and crank loosening run around the Surrey Hills

This is a shameful photo really, but it looks pretty much how I felt

  • Not sure quite where I've gone wrong aesthetically here but I think this needs silver finishing kit, the carved cambium, and some Oury grips (colour TBC)

Struggling to find nice wide silver bars with a bit of rise and a 25.4mm clamp but tempted to try these ETC Hybrid Riser Handlebars

Nice stems in 21.1mm and a sensible length are a nightmare to find so I think it's back to the little stubby purple guy ;)

  • Found myself respraying the original black stem this weekend. Changing my mind just to prove I have one

  • Excited to launch the new colour palette for A/W 2021 when the samples arrive in studio

Also posted a wanted add for some V-brakes

  • After waiting with baited breath Friday brings FRESH DROPS from the A/W 2021 look book:

*essentially some new v-brakes and some piss poor colour matching that looks way more blue than it really is

  • How do I stop these pictures coming out so big?!?

  • So, Makita colours really are in for ‘21. Noted.

  • Finally got round to Makita-ing the raleigh:

Better snaps to follow - and some of the old parts up for sale soon

  • and some of the old parts up for sale soon

Potentially interested in Brooks pending price!

  • Headset is knocking a bit, probably because it was loose in the Surrey Hills. Can I use any 1" headset to replace it and take a 21.1mm stem??

  • Assuming you mean a 1" (22.2mm) stem;
you can use any 1" threaded headset, provided the stack height works with the amount of steerer you have on the forks.

  • No, it is 21.1mm! It's an old ATB/ American BMX standard, it's been difficult finding stems...
It's also quill stem so I think the fork steerer is not cut? I think the quill size is governed by the ID of the fork steerer, so as long as the OD of the fork steerer is standard then any 1" threaded headset would work?

  • Oh right!
I guess it depends on the OD of the fork steerer, and the compatibility of the threads.

At some point the steerer was cut... but as long as the new headset isn't too tall to fit on whatever steerer you have, it should work.

  • OD of the steerer will be 25.4 / 1" . There are quite a few standards out there for headseats, along with the thread (which is the main pratfall in misordering parts for restoring road bikes) - internal diameter of the headtube is one, and the bearing race seat measurement on the Fork can trip you up too. Get your fork and cups out of the frame, and measure everything before ordering. Billy's BMX seem to have some awkward old standard headsets presumably for the vintage BMX heads.

  • A wonderful thread.

  • I'll get the calipers out!
