  • A win on Mott Street at the ELV HC this morning. Bang on 02:00 mins, enough for the Strava KOM too 😁

  • Smashing it!

  • I didn't realise when you put 'Hill Climb Machine' in the title of this thread you were talking about yourself!

A very healthy 9 second gap on that KOM too... congrats Hulk.

  • Well done up there man !!

  • Sounds like you're having a superb season. Keep smashing it.

What climb is the Nationals on?

  • He's got a spacer under the fucking stem! Fail.

  • Is this 4.8kg build the ultimate hill climb bike?

No drilling, bar tape. At least he put track tubs on.

  • Just need carbon tubs and I’d be under 5kg easy.

Also, I’m faster than Ollie Bridgewood (up hills), and he’s a trumpet.

  • Hedley Hill outside of Newcastle. Not a classic Nats course but I reckon it’ll suit me quite well based on this season. Seem to be going well on 4 minute efforts. I’d be absolutely delighted with top 30. So many unknowns in the field that it’s hard to say.

No Tejvan this year, but I should get to meet him at the OUCC HC this Sunday.

  • No drilling, bar tape. At least he put track tubs on.

Also spacers, left shifter. Looks good though.

  • left shifter.

    Duh.

  • 3rd in the OUCC HC yesterday in Wytham. Well organised event and a good (similar) hill to race before the Nats this weekend.

It was also nice to meet Tejvan Pettinger and thank him for his advice and contribution to hill climbing. He claimed to have been injured all year and have done no training, but I know in my heart that I beat him while he’s on top form....

  • I think you might be right about the backwards cap @umop3pisdn ... should never have doubted you.

  • You've had such a good season! Here's hoping you can top it off in the big one...

Speaking of which, anything specific you want me (and friends) to shout at you on Sunday to wring out those last couple of watts? Are you David or Dave? Or will 'HULK SMASH' suffice?

  • Most importantly you've got the hill climb look nailed!

  • Hah, thanks! Yeah, I think consistent training over the year and a kilo less bike has made a big difference. Wondering about next season now. Same again with TrainerRoad (starting from an increased baseline of course) or mix it up and try something different? I suspect I’ll stick with TR, based on the significant increase in power I’ve managed to achieve so far.

David is good - it’s all a wall of noise really but your name comes through most effectively. I’m number 95 (off at 12:05). Thanks for any and all support!

  • Right!? I love how it’s acrually taken all season to refine it, just in time for Sunday.

  • I've just been catching up with this thread and wanted to offer my congratulations too. You're having a fantastic season. Very best of luck at the Nationals too. I have a mate riding it (Hugh Smith - Woolwhich), a really nice guy who's very new to the HC scene, so will tell him to keep an eye out for you.

If you don't mind me asking, did you pick your own TR sessions as you went or did you follow one of their plans?

  • Sweet Spot Base I & II
    Short Power Build
    Criterium Specialism

All low volume, two one hour sessions mid week then skipping every weekend session in favour of a ride outside. The weekend rides were never very taxing outside. Loads of room to increase my trainging load but it would change my lifestyle a bit... maybe I can fit three a week in.

  • Awesome, I'll come say hi if I spot you before/after, but otherwise I'll make sure you hear me on the way up! There should be at least four of us, and we've got a handful of cowbells, and I'll try and take some pictures too if that's not too much to multi-task.

  • Will also be cheering for you. Dunno if you need any local advice but I grew up in Stocksfield and I can tell you that from the HQ to start is a reasonable distance uphill. I'd recommend warming up in the car park across the road from the Dr Syntax if there's space.

  • 👍🏻 Exactly the kind of inside info I need!
