That's a bit like saying it's better than living in a cardboard box in a Croydon shop doorway.

At least Margate has a song by Chas and Dave.

Folkestone is Margate for centerist Dad's

Folkestone has one good beach, one nice street, one decent pub, a couple of decent chippies, no decent restaurants and some nice public art. I’ve been going regularly for a decade - it’s improved, but not by giant steps.

I think Folkestone could be improved by giant steps. Simply buy the Spanish Steps from Rome and install them to link the pub, chippie and beach.

I thought Hastings was the new Margate?
-
• #659
No, but have friends with a flat here, on the front.

One amazing Nepalese restaurant. A beautiful park with great playground. Ace local fish shop, amazing ice cream. Wonderful coastal walks.
And, in my case, a flat with an ocean view in which to read a book and sip alcoholic beverages.
Day trips abound.
I love it here.

Hastings is the new Valhalla, complete with pagans, ale quaffing and the best live music scene anywhere. Come June 21st (hopefully) six separate pubs will have free live music every Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening. All tastes, good and bad, are catered for. Two good streets, many good pubs many bad ones, several good chippies. Good restaurants exist, but take some searching out.

My boss just moved there. I’ve already found the vegan burger place down by the mini golf. We’re already set to be doing some jobs down there lighting up the place with sparkly stuff over the summer...
Def a solid junkie skate-hobo scene from the looks of it. Oh, and do they burn massive amounts of skunk on a bonfire somewhere in town to give the whole place that distinctly zesty whiff?

Hastings? Is that the shit touristy bit next to St Leonards?
-
• #664
The population of Hastings is about 90k, there are approximately 80k very small bonfires every day and one very big one every November (any excuse for a pyromaniac piss-up). Pretty much every scene is represented, but keep to Old Town unless your preferred scene is 18 year old kids punching each other.
There's never too much sparkly stuff!

New Town and seafront yes, Old Town no.

Margate also has a timeball.

Just watched First Man. It’s amazing to think that they got to use the actual sets they used back in the day for the moon landings but this time in proper HD, but the sheer amount of turbine noise in the sound effects reminds you that this was basically all faked up.

What is a timeball and where is it.
-
• #669
When is it?

Germane to fuck all but I just discovered Brisbane has a timeball too.
Maybe relevant but it sure feels half the population of Queensland are flat earthers.

Old-style talking clock that only worked once a day.

The one in Margate is actually functional.
All the others I've seen are relics.
Also one in Deal. -

Fairly sure the one in Greenwich at the observatory is working

I visited the Deal one last year. I think it's supposed to be repaired and start working this year.
Do you live in Folkestone? It’s awesome there, it’s better than Margate
