He wants to see the earth for himself!

"I don't believe in science," he said.
"I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the area, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But that's not science, that's just a formula."
Nnnnngggghhh!

"There's no difference between science and science fiction."

There is nothing in that article that leads me to any other conclusion than: idiot gonna die.

I’m just not sure I’d blast myself in to space in a rocket if I had no faith in science. I’m about to walk my daughter to nursery - something I doubt I’d do if I didn’t believe in legs.

Quite how will be interesting though. I'll put my money on parachute failure. It took a long time and a lot of mistakes before deploying parachutes on re-entry vehicles became reliable.
-
• #433
I think he's only planning to go a mile up so i'm not sure you could class it as 're-entry'.
Not sure what proof he expects to get from a mile up that a weather balloon and a go pro can't give you

That's true, but slowing down big heavy things travelling quickly with parachutes is always a tricky job. One you may well not get right first time...

Maybe he thinks he'll hit the roof of the big dome?

Holy shitballs, it's only been there since 1956? What the hell stopped us all getting sucked out before?
Who cleans this thing? So many questions.

Edit: goddamit way too slow on this...

Well obviously the go pro wouldn't give you proof at all because the sky people who keep us trapped down here would intercept the go pro and put fake footage on it to make it look like the earth is round. This way he gets to see it with his own eyes
-
• #439
But can you even trust your own eyes? For instance, if he did make it in to space and saw a sphere, he’s going to need something else to blame. Like NASA agents infiltrating his opticians and gluing CGI pictures of a spherical earth to his contact lenses.

Walked through a dire part of Haringey this morning.
Pretty impressed with this crank: -

Also, airliners cruise about 7 times higher. Although I suppose he wouldn't trust that the windows weren't part of the simulation.
-
• #442
The only reason they can't do longer flights is all the batteries needed to run the screens.
-

^^ more like 20 times higher.
1800ft seems like a typo? Pretty sure a drone from Argos could do that (though not break a record and/or his neck).

Should i delete this from in the news?
Edit; think its already in here.
Fail. -

Concave earth theory?

What I like about the aforementioned Rocket Man, is that he's done a fair bit of non-flat-earth-research-related rocket attempts but struggled with funding. So he turns to the flat-earthers and pitches it as a research flight and they lap it up. He's just a simple lunatic who likes to fly homemade rockets and is doing what he can to make that dream happen.

Yes apparently he's done it before but not so far or high and was injured on landing. Seems like a good reason to try again.

Next up, the moon!
