anyone on here know where/why/when mtbs starting getting sloped top tubes rather than the traditional horizontal ones?
I read somewhere it was partly to do with the cost of manufacture (it's cheaper?), and partly to do with the fact that aggressive riding means lots of putting your feet down and effectively increasing the standover height would save peoples balls when things get a bit #sketchy...
The reason I ask is because I love the look of vintage mtb frames with 'traditional' / horizontal top tubes and would really like to build one up as a dirt drop tourer...
Any input would be greatly appreciated :)

I think the frame is slightly stiffer with a sloped top tube and the resulting shorter stays.
I'm with you though. I prefer a horizontal top tube.
