W.i.p., my kid's getting a fat tyred touring rig out of this lugged Trek 970 1992. Middleburn Uno, xt 7sp thumby, XT 9 cassette, XT on Sun Rhynolites, XTR mech, diacrap levers on Avid Shorty 6 cantis. Halo twinrails, Ergon grandad style grips, weird narrow swept back bars. GB mudguards and full pannier racks going on, saddle and pin not going to be these, probably silver pin and padded BMX saddle.

Are you finding 1x7 OK? I have the parts for that setup on my retro MTB tourer thingie OR 3x7, but finding it hard to score cheap 26/36/46 (or similar) chainrings. I have a 1x NW chairing tho, so could make my life easier with 1x7...

Got a 9sp cassette, using the thumbie on friction, haven't ridden it yet but the boys at RADBIKES seem to think it's all running nicely. The bike it's replacing had Sram twistshift with 1x8 with less of a spread, so this should be fine for the lad.
I hear 1x chainrings tend to drop a lot, hope that doesn't happen with this too much.

Wicked. I'll run a front mech just to be sure. My 7sp shifter is clicky (no idea of the proper term) so I might just go for 1x7. When I have more money for this bike I'll go 1x10 probably.

Def needs narrow wide. Or Paul chain keeper which is 1,00,000 times the price of n/w
Think I have a cast off from Mr Dennis that'll work

Need to level saddle and swap the pedals/shifters when they arrive tomorrow but it’s basically done.
Super fun ride.
Still on the hunt for an early rear crud guard(with alu stays) if anyone has one?

Not sure if I’ve already posted. But this is my rigid retro MTB. Also have a GT LTS 1000xc locked away in my father garage.
