  • Thought I would share my new project with you guys. I picked up this Condor at the start of the year for £26. It's a stock Condor 531 from the early 90's.

It's pretty tatty, but a solid base for some modifications into a winter build. The Frameset was dropped off this morning at Seabass cycles with Trevor, the guy behind Autumn Frameworks.

    http://www.autumnframeworks.com/

It's gone in for the following additions:-

    Full shot blast.
Eyelets all round for guards & rack.
Water bottle mounts on the seat tube.
Cable guide eyelets on the head tube.

The plan is for a no thrills build. I will be using the Sram Rival groupset from my Kaffenback coupled with some entry level wheels. Details to be decided at a later date.

I have had an awesome day.
You jammy barstard, scoring a Condor for £26.
I was looking at £200 for older Condors on Hilary Stone.
    (but scored something else today)

Looking forward to the after piccys of the updated frame
    Good show
    :)

  • Nice. Are you sticking to the original colour scheme?

Not sure why, but I have a bit of a soft spot for the old Condors.

  • Either sticking with the original purple or might go for black.

I'm umming & ahhing where to get the paint job done

  • I was in Condor several weeks ago.
They have some old frames on display downstairs.
I was looking into a Pista/Tempo but had seen 2 Condors on Hilary Stone.

If i wanted any other colour on a new Condor it came with the extra cost of custom colour, i enquired about getting decals and doing up an older frame.
They can supply decals, if your in London you could enquire about them refinishing.

    ( i bought a Surly instead....... ) :)

  • £29! Amazing.

  • £26! + the frame builder additions.

  • Condor can supply a set of decals for £25 which is not bad.

  • Stick to purple, and metallic purple specifically. For some reason I think it really enhances the Condor typeface. In any case, black is boring, a 'non-colour'.

  • Black would be yawn on this. Purple plz.

  • It was always going to be purple, just wanted the crowds reaction.

Now onto groupsets, just sold the Apex double crap group.

I'm thinking either Veloce or 105 5800. BUT it has to be the older style ultra torque, as I can't be dealing with power torque ever again.

  • First part is in Veloce 10spd long cage.

I've decided to go for an alloy finish groupset. I think that will compliment the purple nicely.

Veloce 10 speed with slightly older ultra-torque chainset. I can stand power-torque, never again!

  • I have some Veloce parts I am happy to party from. What do you need?
Have them at the office, will have some pictures on Tue if that's ok.
Found the old sale thread: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/12719534/

Will need to check what's left, can't recall :)

  • If my eBay bidding is successful today, I will only need 10spd Veloce shifters

  • So pleased how it turned out. Trevor did an awesome job.

  • Power torque is the worst. My wife has it on her bike.

  • Srs question. Is there any reason that you decided to persevere with the DT cable stops plus head tube cable guides, when you could've just gotten the builder to add head tube cable stops? The DT cable stops seem a little redundant given that you've had braze ons added etc.

  • I have the same setup on my TVM. I can't stand cable rub on the headtube and this solution is neat.

This method works well for me using DT stops with a nice cable guide and elimates cable rubbing.

Leaving the boses gives me options for DT shifters at a later date and plus It's good to experiment :-)

  • Decals ordered from Condor and are on the way.

Frame will be painted @Bob Jackson. I've been emailing Argos for 2 weeks with no reply. Shame as it's down the roadish, and would of been handy.

  • give them a bell or pop in, they were super friendly and quick when I went round unannounced
