Nice/subbed. Are you sure from 86/87? I have an AA special from (i think) '88. When I was doing some poking around I thought that the panto'd seat lug was from 89 onwards.

Ah ok. It's a shame that it was too big. It's replacement (the BMC) looks great by the way.

Ah ok, I was hoping that a red accent on the forks might complement the SRAM Red bits and Syntace finishing kit... Hmmm.
Probably safer to stick with plain black forks, and avoid it getting too 'busy'.

I got those details from the guy that I bought it off...
I think that he asked for info on another forum, and they came back with:
The frame is from 86/87 and its an AA-super champion mondial.
Tubing is 531(C?).
He also said 'When they repainted the frame they probably changed the construction as well.' Which seems a bit cryptic.I think you're right re: the panto'd seat lug: http://jvs.webklik.nl/page/gazelle
I'm going to look into things a bit more.. but if it is a custom build / team frame, and/or had extra work done, then I imagine that it'll be a tricky one to work out.

Should be sweet. Classic steel with SRAM is a winning combo. Here's mine

Thanks.
Nice build you've got there! The black components really help to bring out the colours of the frame. -

any details on that frame? currently in the process of trying to get my girlfriend a bike built up and looking for frames, she just gasped at how nice the paint was on this haha!

Not muc to say really. Roberts, which means it's awesome. I picked mine up from BLB after eyeing it up for a while. They've got a few tasty frames in there. There's a bunch of other stores selling vintage steel now. You've got Hackney Peddler, Pedal Peddler, Isambards, Sargent & Co, Vintage Bike Cave... and of course eBay.

You got any idea which roberts model it is though? Nice bike anyway!
*edit: what an idiot how did I not know roberts were always custom

Carbon forks for tig welded steel frames.
Steel forks for lugged frames.
See post #24 for evidence :)Beautiful frame and subbed

Hmmm.. you might be right.
Nothing wrong with testing the rule though...These two look ok-ish, don't they?

They do indeed and you should do what you want to do. A carbon fork on a steel frame makes a lot of sense, and judging by the frame size you're also a big guy so the move away from quill also makes a lot of sense

Yeah, to be honest I've got my heart set on a carbon fork. I can easily change back to the OG steel forks if I decide to in the future.

I'm still undecided on whether to get the EC90's resprayed in black (by Dave at ColourTech), or buy some stock 1" Columbus Minimals.
Has anyone had any recent experience with ColourTech? or any comments on the quality of their work? Their prices seem to be very reasonable.
Also.... black CK headset or silver Campagnolo Record?

A quick mock-up of the build with some straight leg carbon forks and the Ksyrium SL's.

Feedback and pointers are always welcome... but be gentle.
I think a black headset is going to be the way to go... so I'm looking for a black CK threadless headset (NoThreadSet) as the final piece of the puzzle.

i found that a ck nothread in 1" is a rare piece. why not cane creek 40 instead? quality and replaceable bearings too
Black or blue (to match teh frame) but I can't see red working with yellow and blue.
