Sora is already over 2600g as it is.
It's usually stuff like the chainset being around 850g (old Sora is 840g, exc bb).

No bike with Sora ever got featured on Radavist. Jussayin'
I'd rather 3rd hand Dura Ace than new anything under 105.
C'mon man you can do better, especially when the whole premise for the build is a set of Paul brakes so what's the point in being pragmatic and economical now?

I'm into this Sora thing. It's basically all the same shimano shit anyway. People were doing amazing long rides in the 90s with gear you literally cannot give away now. As long as the gears are indexed I don't think it will matter at all.
Or, and this is thinking outside the box, belt drive.

Second hand Dura Ace, even the old 8 speed one are fucking awesome to shift.

All this sora malarkey has to be a wind up
-
• #807
Has this been resolved yet? Are disc brakes dead or not? I think we should be told.
-
• #808
But then I'd have to use 8 speed 😨

Microshift. Fsa chainset, in white. 90s ergo bend bars.
You know it makes sense. -

Agree to this in the sense that the supposedly obsolete 90's gear is in fact better made and probably lighter than contemporary Sora. I had old Shimano DX bar ends on my 8spd Nago Cx bike and Campag bar ends on my tourer: loved both for the reliability and performance and were pretty light groupsets too. Modern Sora probably has plastic internals and is v heavy so I don't see the point.

i have DA 7800 shifters in my parts bin - you want?
I'd have been keen as I toyed with a 7800 build but the Sora groupset is already here
-
• #813
I can always build another bike around it ..
-
• #815
isn't this the reason you are building this abomination - that you already had the brakes?
-
• #816
It's you

Refunds are a thing
-
• #818
As in they're both made by shimano and both black.....
That's where the similarities end.
I think you should send the sora back and get DA
-
• #819
Sora is bad and you should feel bad
-

You wanted a quick road bike that happens to take large tyres (although I don't know why). It's not going to be quick when it weight 20kg because of budget parts.
-
• #821
but I weigh 63
-
• #822
So it should weigh even less because of watts/kg.
-
• #824
I'd like to think I am building a Surly Pacer with slightly better tubing, S&S, high stack for InstaSlam®, Paul brakes braze ons and a pump peg.

2.99 w/kg with Sora, at best.
@amey Isn't sora going to break the luggage weight limit?
Downtube shifters FTW
