  • planet x has a frame too!

This morning I acquired a Genesis CdF for a lockup/turbo bike. Will be built with Rival22 hydro and SPA 44/28 cranks, nitto M18/BLB rack with one of those planet X ostrich bags.

  • So an expensive lockup/turbo bike.

  • yeah, agreed with ed, I wouldn't lock something that nice on the street...

  • It'll be insured and I'll try to make it look ratty.

  • Good call, so you can rebuild it again when it get stolen.

  • Luckily I can afford it.

  • I don't understand why you're not better off with a POS road bike on the turbo. You want mudguards on the CdF right? If you have a rear rack too, altogether it seems like it's going to be a real pain removing and replacing the wheel all the time... And is 44/28 the best choice for a turbo? You don't need the low end but I guess as long as you can have the ratios for the right amount of effort/cadence for you that doesn't really matter

If you have space I'd grab something like a Triban 500 or Ribble Audax for £100, swap the rear shifter, derailleur and crankset for whatever 11-speed stuff you can get cheap and throw the rear wheel, brakes, etc. in the bin. Then just leave it on the turbo forever.

  • I share turbo with missus.
And only do structured sessions so just use one cog/chainring combo really.

  • Now .. for a white CDF and silver CK headset with black everything else (groupset, wheels, finishing kit) do I use the red SMP I have in the shed and a red bar tape?

  • Ah right, that makes a lot more sense. Well it's always an option if the mudguards become a hassle - maybe two matching turbo shitbikes ;)

PS. I think red would look good, but I wonder if a thief might be more likely to nick it as it stands out more. Stealth is usually the way to go right?

  • If it's going to get stolen, it's going to get stolen. I have most parts (wheels, finishing kit) just needed the frame and groupset, both of which has cost me less than £500. I already have a reeeeealy shit bike, a proper beater but I don't enjoy riding that on 10+ mile commute.

  • I'd grab something like a Triban 500.

Exactly what I'm thinking, or a Pinnacle Laterite (£420), better yet, the Vitus Razor (£375)

  • let me overspend my money on the bikes ed, do you hate the bike industry?

  • Hope you enjoy it buddy! Share a pic when it's done

  • absolutely :) thanks !

  • wattbike

  • Not glowing reviews and we use diff saddles, I really wanted to buy it

  • 6 inch q-factor

  • Do you have a Strava route or similar for this?

  • Finally

  • has dbad ever been ridden in anger or is it still captive in the bike dungeon?

  • has dbad ever been ridden in anger

I'd be angry every time I had to ride that bike.
