  • Even the modern stuff struggles with that big a jump. Really curious to see this mate, seems like you've thought out ever aspect of the bike in accordance to how you ride. What chainrings did you use?

  • Just a heads up, there is a cycle jumble in Sheffield on Saturday 2 mins from Cycles in Motion, in case you want to tie than in to your collection trip

  • Isn’t 16t is normal thought? (50/34 for instance), it’s the Rene Herse 3 bolts chainring, gonna ordered a 48/32 for the flatter route soon.

I still haven’t seen the bike yet.

  • Not able to make it sadly as the guys is going to Newscastle for a hill climb event.

  • I just realised this is 5 pages long.

Seemed that there wasn’t much to discussed that haven’t already been in the Oak Cycles and Elephants project.

  • I originally intend to keep the Oak Cycles as a fast club bike.

Due to the 73 degrees seat angle, this is no longer the case, I may be selling it very shortly, but very happy that I have ridden it to death and still get a lots of enjoyment from it, just sad that my fit is pushing the bike a bit to the point a reverse setback seatpost and 110mm stem is needed.

Darn the perfectly comfortable SMP saddle.

  • My bad, end of day brain drain. Was thinking MTB as that's what I'm trying to balance out at the moment.
    48-38 vs 38-28 choices.

  • Saddle is in the right position.

  • I was worried the 31.8mm seat post look too fat but actually work with the stem well.

  • lovely, needs better pics

  • needs better pics

    ^ this

Also close up of the chain stay/drop out junction, looks nice #nicheporn

  • The bottom bracket is very low on it! (Can tell by the chainstay).

It was screenshotted on the phone from Instagram

  • Brake cable angles need looking at.

  • Decaleur porn

  • Awesome !
@edscoble What is the plan if you ever crash this very specific rear derailleur then ? What is the front one by the way ?

What are the dimensions of the Oak ? ^^

  • Dura Ace 7400 aren’t exactly rare, since its friction shift, any derailleur can work, the only issues is the screw limi to stop it going beyond the 6th cog.

Geometry of the new is 62cm seat tube (I think) and 53cm top tube with 74 degrees seat tube angle.

Oak was seat tube 59cm c-t-t, 53cm top tube and 73 degrees seat tube.

  • Why has your bike fit changed so significantly that the oak is no longer fitting?

  • Good question, its simply down to the SMP saddle and my legs that required the saddle to be set much further forward, says around 25mm forward compare to the average person.

Originally I had a Brooks in the past that fit fine, it’s only until the SMP saddle that result in the 73 degrees seat tube of the Oak now being too slack for me.

I never been uncomfortable on the SMP saddle, matter of fact, i no longer notice it even after a long day of riding.

This new bike’s geometry allow the saddle to sit near or on the middle of the clamp rather than at the maximum length.

    As for the fit difference;
Handlebar is slightly higher, top tube is 1cm longer (due to steeper seat tube) enabling a shorter stem, bottom bracket also lower than the Oak 650b, and a longer seat tube (Oak is 59cm C-T-T).

  • From my limited experience of bike fitting, I guess that the 25mm change caused by the new saddle just brings you out of +/- 20mm knee over pedal spindle?

Bike looks great too, would love something along the same lines!

  • Got it.

  • So dark

  • Currently on train back to London, felt slightly lighter than Oak, fit so well on the 1.4km ride to the station.

  • Wonderful.

What's the q-factor? Probably can't get much narrower than normal with double cranks even though the hub is narrow.

  • Brake cable angles need looking at.
