You missed Iron Knob.

You can only ride as fast as you can ride though.
But your right about riding when it’s good. I do that too it’s a must. -

And that’s the point. You need to pace it, it’s a long way. Really you need to have done a few to know how your body reacts, so you can eek the maximum out of it.
I think suts unsustainable and he’ll put himself into a hole, that he’ll need to get out of.

This time last year I was going through hell on the approach to Madura, knackered after riding all night (to take advantage of a drop in the wind) but not wanting to stop for a nap as wet, muddy with dead kangaroos and flies everywhere...

It will be very interesting to see. I think he is unknown territory for himself so no-one can know to what extent he can keep going, and maybe dial back the hours a fraction to sit on his lead.
The terrain is easier, though (if there isn't a strong headwind), doing 500 km in a day there probably not harder than you doing 400+ in a day up and down hills in Europe. -

When did Stephane get the "Kiwi" nickname and why?

Not much. Mostly emergencies, flying doctor, etc I expect. There really is nothing there other than a smaller version of a motorway service station with a staff of half a dozen

The other weird thing (one of the other ones anyway) about the roadhouses is that they are mostly staffed by Brits on working holiday gigs. So if you fly out just before the start of the race and set off, not only do you not see any kangaroos, you hardly meet any actual human Aussies

actual human Aussies
are a myth anyway.

• #1191
Have you even been to earls court?
-
• #1192
Not in the 90s when there were actually Aussies there and were they in fact human?

Did you watch Lael's TABR?

Didn’t follow that race - what’s the story?

Trying my best guys. Remember I’m on a fixed gear - and so is Pawel! My goal is to beat him. Any roadie scalps along the way is a bonus! Attack begins in 5 hours depending on knee upon waking up... currently light rain!

Steffen Streich, race leader, woke up feeling groggy on the last morning. His GPS was broken and he rode back the wrong way up the course. Didn't realise until he met Lael. She was fresher, dropped him and he couldn't catch her because he was too knackered from having ridden solo and kept having to stop to ask directions!
Last year in IndyPac I met Vasiliki, who had done the same thing. Woke up at Nullarbor roadhouse and rode back the wrong way for 80km, didn't realise until I said 'Hi' to her at 5am

Doing well! Look forward to the attack, but long way to go and don't bust your knee, yet!

From what I remember, Steffen, the race leader, stopped to sleep, woke and then started riding in the wrong direction, only realising until he saw Lael in 2nd place riding towards him...

Wasn't there also a wrong turn in there by Lael that Steffan corrected for her? Pretty sure she hid from him too at one point. Recollection is hazy, but my first race following and it was awesome at the end. Keep going @veganjoseph, amazing a Dolan fixed is out there doing this!
The right call.
