Alpkit's Confucius bars???
-
• #3
The Loop bar is all about the 45 degree sweep and the 710mm width. There are few options out there with those specs.
Fingers crossed someone delivers the holy grail. I hear Alpkit chickened out of a direct competitor a few years ago.

New version of the moloko coming in April apparently

I emailed Charlie The Bike Monger today about the Molokos as I found that Surly page but not seen them for sale yet.
The old Moloko was discontinued. I think because it was two pieces of tubing – too close to the Loop design – whereas the new one is four pieces, which will probably make it heavier than Loop, especially if it’s steel, which it looks like from pics. Hope I’m wrong.
They’re all terrified of copying the Loop but it doesn’t seem like he has a patent on it and he’s charging cottage industry, hand made prices for something he’s having made abroad. Fair game AFAICS.

Roll on April!

Also these http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/casey-crazy-bar.html
No loop though..

And what's really not fair here is that If someone doesn't sort it out soon, I'll end up with something like this.....
And NOBODY wants that.

Good tip. That'd definitely one to consider for my needs. The problem is that the Jones bars is both slightly more elegant and more thought out, but not £100 extra more elegant and thought out!

I’d rather have sciatica.

titec j-bar, if you can get one.
-
• #14
Narrow and rare.

i might get some Humpert Moon Bugel bars.
Actually I'll probably get the alpkit ones, they look OK. -
• #16
Same.
@IdealStandard yeah apparently they've been a little indecisive with releasing this bar, hence why I was going off the "we're really serious this time" blog post.

But those butterfly bars are really safe when you crash!
Velo Orange Casey bar.
Don't know if those will ever be back at velo vitality, but was the most interesting alternative I found to the Jones thing when looking. But still a bit expensive. -

I managed to get hold of a pair of the alpkit ones...'fu man chu'...
They are virtually the same as the first loop bars @ 680mm.....and are nice. They also only cost £20, including shipping, which makes you realise exactly how much of your Arse is being ripped out with the Jones bars.....of which I have a pair too!

One-off sample or actual stock (as in they have more)???
-

They were meant to be going out for general sale, but there must have been a legal wrangle. They were sitting in the warehouse, but not advertised. I was very persistent and got one for product testing ;0)
My buddy has a pair of the Confucius bars, and it looks to me as if they have cut the loop off the ones I have, and welded it onto the front of the wide flat bars they sell (the name escapes me), which works well for him, but I like the sweep.
It might be worth phoning them to see if there are any knocking around? -

Excellent heads up, thank you. I have a pair on their way to me.
They were £35 posted.

They seem to have a few in still; I just picked up a set over the phone.
Headline specs are: Width 660mm, Sweep 45 degrees, Clamp 31.8mm.

All too narrow for me. Shame, I'll have to wait for those surlys
-

As in you just phoned up and asked? If so I'll get some tomorrow!
I want to try out some touring bars that offer more hand combinations and are better for handling offroad. I really like the look of the Loop bar, but they cost an astronomical amount.
Are there any decent alternatives without the price tag? The Moloko looks like one, but that has been discontinued apparently.
Thanks
