Do Rapha have free food and beanbags?

I'm pretty sure the salary will govern the age of most applicants.
This is very true, however they don't state the salary on the add. That said the job role is "Junior", which is a clue to the rough range.

TBF the whole add is screaming out "we're giving you a start, expect to forage in bins for food for the first year".

Work at design consultancy part of a uni, deemed discriminatory to advertise job role as 'junior designer' or anything similar, especially cant refer to them as 'young', also can't ask for 'X years experience' as it implies an age. However they're 100% fine with 'Senior lecturer/designer'...
Shrug.

Really? It says to me they're looking for a recent graduate level copy writer but don't mind if they haven't just graduated or have some experience instead.

And there are no implications which follows that, then? No quid-pro-quo at all, say in the realm of remuneration?

In other news I'm looking to recruit a Security Engineer into my team - no experience required, and I'll pay them 100k/year plus 30% bonus.

^This is, for the avoidance of doubt, not true.

no, you're right. They didn't mention the salary therefore there isn't one.

The salary will, of course, be so low that the successful applicant will be in a permanent state of suffering. How else could they acquire experience relevant to writing for Rapha? :)
-
• #38
Junior in this case I take to mean 'inexperienced as a copy writer'. How about someone who has re-trained later in life, should they be excluded because they are not young as the ad suggests?
-

no, you're right. They didn't mention the salary therefore there isn't one.
Interesting post, given that I haven't said that at all.
My suggestion is that the salary for the role will be low - and with every use of words like "opportunity" I'd knock another grand off the gross, as there is a fairly obvious quid pro quo here - the applicant is going to parlay experience for access to Rapha, a company that works in an area in which they're passionately interested, to (potentially) get a start in copywriting.
= Whenever the job advert can be paraphrased as "by employing you we're doing you a big favour" it's not going to be win-win.

Immediately anyway, who knows - it could be the break someone is looking for, and people throw away some very good food.

But the post is actually pretty thin on guff. The only part I can pull out is
"This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic young writer with a passion for cycling"
As someone that's just been looking at junior positions I've seen so many genuine adverts that look for 3+ years experience, way more skills than any junior would have and/or only pay in equity.
This Rapha one is very reasonable, in fact more so than most other Rapha job adverts I've seen.

I'm not saying it's remarkable for being bad, or particularly unreasonable - especially in comparison to the adverts you reference.
It's a dog eat dog world and we all had to start somewhere, after all.
And it's part of the dance, as it were - the reason people move (on average) at just under two years is to boost their salary, you start at 17k and 3% incremental payrises are going to take a long time to really make an impact, whereas getting an extra five grand for changing what comes after the @ in your email address is a more rapid route to success.
I just wish these things were a bit more direct and honest, I suppose.

It's a junior role, they spell out the kind of experience they are looking for, sell the company a bit by saying it's exciting to work there is you're a bike nerd, and don't mention a salary as it's implied at the experience level, along with 90% of all other job adverts. I see nothing objectionable about it and am frankly surprised it's generated this much discussion.
-

I don't think a job advert I've applied for has ever been 'honest'. There's always Ad hoc

I doubt Waffa have any plans to appeal to the young. They must know that's impossible given the average age of their customers.
Wearing the same shit as your dad is never, ever cool, no matter how young the copywriter is.
