Far too sensible, ban flights on routes that have a train link that takes under 4.5hours, add an additional 14minutes to the journey on average and cuts emissions by 33% globally and 53% in the UK

Countries were asked to submit new climate plans before @COP27P. 22 met the deadline.
@UNFCCC have now re-assessed all climate plans.
Their findings:
If all pledges were met global temperatures will rise by 2.5C Emissions will increase by 10.6% by >2030 compared to 2010
The @IPCC_CH (UN climate scientists) say emissions need to fall by 45% by 2030 -

Reusable cups, hope you are all using reusable cups, apparently they are the solution according to Theresa Coffey, between her and Sunak's kids recycling plastic and glass, no wonder they don't see any need for the PM to attend COP27

What does it mean when experts start saying the quiet part out loud: We might be completely fucked when it comes to climate change?

I know the comments are just trash, but it seems illustrative of why there's so much climate doom around.
Firstly, things are getting more and more desperate, that window of opportunity we had has basically closed but things can still always be much worse. It's grim.
Secondly, the constant effort of trying to persuade people/deniers that the situation really is serious means the rest of us are subject to this doom-noise. It's stuck at the first step of plausibility/acceptance. If only we could move beyond this we could be talking more about what we are doing.I've realised I wake up most days and spend time online reading, mostly keeping 'up to date' with the climate crisis. I don't think it's helping me.

There was a screenshot on twitter the other day of a bunch of the right wing journalists on a zoom call with a fossil fuel backed think tank and now I see them on twitter keep trotting out this line that net zero will stop billions in the global south getting lifted out of poverty and fossil fuels are the answer to improved living standards and this being repeated by deniers and they keep posting the same few graphs to argue it. It sounds like a conspiracy but clearly isn't but is exhausting watching how good fossil fuel firms and interested parties are at sowing doubt and delivering delay.

15 minute video by The Guardian on the current start of play and what COP 27 means
In a critical year for the climate, award-winning Guardian environment editor Fiona Harvey reflects on 30 years of Cops and meets the politicians, activists and scientists asking who is responsible for saving the planet.
In November last year, the world’s gaze focused on Glasgow at Cop26 as “a historic, collective achievement” was forged between 200 countries – the Glasgow climate pact. Since then, unprecedented global events have threatened this commitment to limiting climate destruction, and the hopes of “keeping 1.5 alive” have been dashed. We follow Fiona as she prepares for Cop27 in Egypt, asking presidents, global leaders, activists and scientists if global diplomacy is enough to save humanity from the brink of annihilation.
