• only way to know is to get Cyclefit to strip it down and take a proper look at it.

They should tell you it all needs replacing.

  • Good work. Let's hope the police can do something with the information. It'll still be hard to show who was driving, but if it is the car, that's quite a big hurdle overcome.

  • Witnesses would be a tremendous help at this stage.

    The main witness is independent.

I'm not sure it's wise to confer, any misphrase could be construed as a leading question. I'd prefer the police handle matching the witness statement to what we've found. I don't want to screw something up that might be the thing that makes any day in court collapse.

  • Just to make you aware, I had an accident last year, I took details of a witness and both my lawyer and the police were extremely glad I did not contact the witness in between the accident and a court appearance. It can't be suggested that you've got your stories synced that way but I understand in your case with nobody specific to blame, the witness is playing a key role in you finding the one at blame.
Best of luck with it all. You will inevitably be more aware and paranoid of being passed on narrow roads etc but it's natural, will improve with time and if anything will only make you more vigilant and possibly save yourself an injury in the future

  • Is there any car paint on your levers? If so, try to get a SOCO to take a sample for comparison with the car.

  • @Velocio Any luck with CCTV from the White Hart? If you can place the car at the scene and also the witness/scratches from the car gets a stronger case together....

There is also traffic CCTV cameras over Blackfriars Bridge A201 into the A3200 which may have tracked him before the incident.

  • TfL traffic cameras don't record.

  • There is a camera on a lamppost just up the road. Probably a bit too far away to see the collision but it is pointing in the right direction so would be able to place the car at the scene.

  • That's a TFL camera, I noticed it on my recce but if what Sparky says is true, it is annoyingly useless.

There are a couple of other private ones in a similar area that I have given Velocio the details for.

  • Good to hear you are healing up,
    and,
that you have (probably) identified the car.
Lets hope th'Old Bill put some effort into the investigation.
Don't mobile phone records of cell locations pinpoint where/when a mobile phone was?

  • Were you recording your ride? If so, could Strava Flyby find another witness? Another cyclist might even have caught it on camera.

Or would this fall foul of what @PhilDAS was talking about re: contacting witnesses.

  • When the police aren't doing anything, I'd say getting some witness help yourself wouldn't be stupid. Luckily the driver in my case stopped and said it was his fault (at the time, he now denies liability and I'm waiting for a court date nearly two years on), so I didn't have to speak to anyone but my lawyer.

  • Great update.

I'm glad the injuries are healing up well.

Hopefully it's not dented your enthusiasm for cycling in town either.

  • Even if he wasn't using strava, someone could potentially trawl all the segment attempts from that day. Not sure it would turn up anything useful though... If a cyclist with a camera had seen the incident, I'm sure they would have stopped

  • Just if it's gone through ANPR cameras which are on A roads and motorways, don't know about town roads and don't know if it can be searched after the fact

  • Were you recording your ride? If so, could Strava Flyby find another witness?

I don't use Strava for privacy reasons.

  • The car in question might have a black box fitted as an insurance requirement, but I guess you'd only get to the data once plod gets involved.

  • I guess you'd only get to the data once plod gets involved.

This all presumes the police will get involved. At the moment, the assumption is the other direction, but I'm about to head to Southwark Police Station to ensure I get put in the Collision Record Book in an attempt to get some engagement from them.

  • Result of going to the police station:

    1. Collision Report Book can only be completed at the time of the incident when police are in attendance. It records things like road conditions, lighting, and cannot be completed after the event.
    2. Until the initial self-report has been accepted, it isn't possible to add further information.

In the case of the second one, this means that it may be automatically closed due to not having the licence plate. I may need to file again after I've had the first one recognised if it does get closed automatically... to present new info.

Basically I can't do anything until they acknowledge receipt of the original report, which was filed on Saturday.

  • Did they say why #1 wasn't completed at the time? If not they should have at least been recording these details in their pocket book. If they took no such details I would want their skipper/inspector to explain why.

  • I know why they didn't attend... I didn't ask for them when I dialled 999. I asked for an ambulance and that's all that was sent.

The ambulance asked for them, but were notified that the police would intercept at the hospital. This never happened, and the police apologised but this doesn't change the fact that they will not complete a CRB entry after the event.

  • I assume that you've confirmed that it's taxed via this handy page - https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

Sadly it would be very wrong of you to check the insurance status here - https://ownvehicle.askmid.com/

I strongly think that the second shouldn't have the restriction on it.

  • That's a shame. It's a shitter that they didn't come to the scene. I would want them to explain further why they didn't see fit to attend a hit and run (or even follow up at hospital) to allow them to be better equipped at potentially taking a dangerous driver off the streets. But like you say, that won't change anything.

Do you want some photographs of the area at a similar time of day this week? You might be able to use that in a retrospective manner should anything come of it to show the street light conditions and visibility along the straight road. Alongside historic weather conditions.

  • I know my general forum style can come across as quite acidic but I genuinely think there's a very nuanced approach to justice that has created your situation and the Police have been negligent with regards to what is a very serious crime that could have seen you in a wheelchair or worse.

Police attended my RTA and arrested the guy on the scene but he still got let off as my eventual injuries probably proved not to justify their time prosecuting it, I was out of work for 4 months, racked up serious debt, got very depressed with all the adverse effects that has on friends/relationships and ended up being extremely stressed and anxious cycling in London for the remainder of my time there. If I'd been in your shoes and not even able to claim compensation from the insurer for bike/lost wages etc I would have been fucking livid.

  • Just seen all this... and good to see by page 10 that things are moving along (if tricky with the plods). Hope the healing up is going well.
