• Hay all,

I bought one of these frames about 18 months ago and due to many other projects and not really riding any xc stuff it has sat in a box since then.

    This one:

Planning on building it up rigid for the first while any way, pos a lefty in the future if funds allow so i have bought this salsa fork:

    screen shots

First issue is getting the fork painted to match the frame. It took two seconds to find the paint code Ritchey use (Dupont 29198 red), but i am having no luck finding somewhere to mix the paint as it is a Dupont code. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It will be built up with 10 speed x.t but not sure on brakes and what hub/ rim combo for the wheel build.

  • getting paint to match is a nightmare; it will always be a bit off. i reckon the black is a good combo with the frame as is, and saves you the guineas.

not the exact same paintjob, but some inspiration from on here: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/13160588/
looks good with the black fork!;)

  • Yeah, that build looks nice with the black fork for sure. I think a suspension fork would not bother me if it was black but skinny steel forks are begging to be painted! :), however if it is a nightmare to get paint mixed to that code i'll just leave them as is.

  • you had that frame in a box for 18 months

    shame on you

  • /\ /\ Haha, yeah! it came up at trade so i bought it, then other projects got in the way. Trying my hand at some endurance mtb racing next year so time to build it up. Going to put he salsa forks on and see what they look like in black when they arrive. pics will follow.

Had no luck trying to find anybody who would mix to the dupont paint code. However the bike above is making me think white for the fork. the pics of the frame with black forks just dont do it for me. E.T.A on the forks in now sometime after the 15th.

Got some ultra cheapo (free) wheels that will do for now so all i need to decide on is brakes.

  • I've got a black On-One carbon fork on mine. I'm kinda thinking about going to 27.5+ wheels, which will fit.

  • I have seen a couple of pics with them built up as 650 +, looks like a lot of fun. Brakes are now sorted as a friend has given me a set of guides, he went hope on a new bike and donated the stock guides. hopefully i will have the fork soon so i can get it a mock up build together and some pics.

  • I had one of these for a few months. I loved it but didn't have enough xc or singletrack as Cali so didn't use it as much as I should and sold it. It was lovely to ride though, super comfy steel. Rad paint etc. Took inspiration from this

  • ^^ Being a rather sad person I know that the P29er above has a Maxxis Ikon 2.35 on the back and a Surly Knard 3.0 on the front. 29, obviously.

  • Bike ended up having 2 set ups that I switch between depending on what i'm using it for.

  • would like a nicer sus fork but 1" 1/8 is a making that a difficult task, any ideas on that front would be greatly appreciated.

  • Have toyed with the idea of a lefty worried about it forcing a stack and then needing a -40 deg stem or something to get my bars where i like them. Couldn't live with the aesthetics of that.

  • I'm kinda thinking about going to 27.5+ wheels, which will fit.

    This thought passed.

I'm now on Soma Cazadero 42c tyres, which work great with the P29er in a speedy gravel grinder kinda way.

  • The new ones have different clamp spacings to suit different frame sizes.

But they also have frame specific offsets, i.e. 55mm for the 100mm 29er version.

And the new ones are not as reliable as the old booted version.

  • This is absolutely top notch! Beautiful frame and I'm very jealous!

  • I have no time for MTB but this is rad.

  • This is my other bike, It has been great thus far and has been very versatile. I either run c.x tyres as seen, 32mm road tyres or 40mm schwalbe g one gravel tyres. The only other changes being the stem to play with fit before buying a nicer one and adding a long cage mech and a 42 tooth cassette for bikepacking type rides.

  • Thinking about a tubular wheel set for racing.

  • After moving back to Ireland after 5 years living away I found this buried in my parents shed, I had totally forgotten about it. It is getting 10 speed xt, 40mm answer stem, 760mm race face bars, guides from the parts bin and a cheap 27.2 dropper. If i like riding it I will add my usual tyre set up of magic mary front and rock razor rear ans pos better (used) wheels.
