Got me some small stuff from @Mahalolily
14t and 15t NJS goodness!
As for the wheels, I nearly settled for RR 511 DBs. Semi-deep, pretty light for 30mm-ish aluminium and also cheaper than Archetypes. Going for 24 spokes 2x for both front and rear.
Or R 460 DBs?!
Carbon is out of the game, I didn't have VAT and customs in mind. These would bring the rims to 150€ per rim.
Also this will be my somewhat beater for sunny days. Carbon doesn't match that. -

Next small bit incoming: Thomson Elite Seatpost
I knew the numbers but I didn't expect it to be this light!Next bit is, after all the struggle, wheels! I'll go for 28/28 Mack and R 460 DB before I change my mind again. Just have to settle for a color.
These plus silver spokes should look ace

Can't wait to see how these wheels turn out!
-
• #31
Yeah, me too! Could take a while again though, Mack is not fast on replies
-
• #32
I personally like the look of the DT Swiss track hubs, not sure how they'd compare to Mack hubs or others
-
• #33
Top part of the cradle is the wrong way around on the shaft (you should have to tip your head over to the right, not the left to read the logo).
-
• #34
Hah, thanks! Bought it off eBay and was mounted this way. Too bad because the "right" side has some bigger marks of use.
@velohobbit yeah, these are definitely one of the most beautiful modern hubs. Sadly they only come in 20/24. Maybe later sometime when I feel the need of serious racing wheels :)

New stuff arrived:
Fizik Arione R5
(logo the right way round this time)HHSB alert! Super wide Easton Haven
I also got the order for the hubs through. Finally! Low flange 28h in dark blue as posted a few days ago and will probably be laced with DT Comp to R 460 DBs, if I don't change my mind again that is ;) Little downside: the hubs will take about 6-8 weeks to arrive.
The last real struggle will be whether I go for Zen or "just" regular 75s -

¯_(ツ)_/¯
I originally wanted a black 49t chainring but this was bargain and hell, it is one handsome combo!

I've been in Seoul/Korea for the last two weeks and brought me stuff. I know, rather small bits than big progress again but I'm getting there!
Choice Strong V NJS grips
They were a real pita to mount so I used an ancient technique that has been passed through generations of my family.
Mounting was really easy but no chance to get the straws out. All three ripped so I had to start all over again with just water -> blisters on my hands
Izumi Jet Black
I'm not completely sure why I didn't just take a silver chain
6 weeks have passed since I got the order confirmation from Mack. The hubs should be ready to be shipped in the next two weeks!
I chickened out on the colour by the way. Went for plain silver than dark blue for a more harmonic vibe. -

Pedals arrived today:
MKS Urban Platform
Toshi and Fujita NJS Straps
BLB steel toe clips
I was surprised because the pedals are way smaller than they appear on photos. They are about the same size as MKS Sylvans but have a slightly longer axle -> less heel rub, longer fresh looking cranks
Hubs are finally ready to be shipped, so I hope they'll be here in the next 2 weeks. Not much left to the finish line! Only part missing besides all the wheel stuff is the bottom bracket.

i don't really like these frames and i really hate wide bars but the attention to detail and the photos make me really impatient as i'm eager to see the build pics ('cause there'll be build pics, right?!) and the finished article. ace project!
-
• #41
Cheers!
There won't be proper pics while building up probably. I don't want to break the camera as I don't own one myself and have to borrow it everytime from my flatmate. But I'll try to shoot some photos of the finished bike. When I'm not busy shredding the shit of it that is ;)@HHC not sure what you mean by swheet foceh but yeah, Thuekr's is the one every 2014 Histo has to compete with!

swheet foceh
Meant Swheet fixeh. Do love a good HHSB build, and I'm sure this will not fail to entertain.
Have grown (well I've always been) bored of the compact, thick tired, disc braked neo-hipster road bikes this forum has become populated by.Whats the straw method? Shoot WD40 down them?
-
• #43
This forum definitely needs more HHSB build threads!
Whats the straw method? Shoot WD40 down them?
There is no big science behind it, they just reduce friction drastically. Didn't work out though.
I'm already afraid of pulling the grips off and on again as the bars are 740mm wide right now (wtf) and I want them to be at around 600mm. Soap water will do I hope. -
• #44
Cable ties can do the same job as straws and are unlikely to break.
Otherwise a 70% ethanol/isopropyl alcohol and water mix is a good alternative to soap
-
• #45
Hairspray does the trick too!
-
• #46
Hairspray is the answer.
-
• #47
Hairspray if you never want to take your grips off ever again..
-
• #48
No permanent stuff!
I'll stick with soap water since I have both at home already unless someone tells me that's the stupidest idea ever -
• #49
It just takes a while to dry underneath the grips. I use a small squirt of brake cleaner and it works a treat and drys out super quick
-
• #50
It's not permanent. If you wanna remove the grips later on, use a thin screwdriver or allen key or even a kebab skewer (anything really that can get between the grips and your bars without doing any damage) and insert the nozzle from your WD40, spray away and start rotating the grips (after removing the screwdriver and nozzle). The further in you get and spray the easier it'll be to get the grips off. Whole process takes less than 10 seconds. Super easy.
