Is Skinny totally blasting the section before CP3? Only 6km behind Bjorn, apparently. Impressive!
EDIT: just saw ^

Then, for each person you want to show the route for, click on them on the map and select "Toggle route on map".

Not quite yet. frrt has the checkpoint at the bottom of the parcours, trackleaders has it at the top.

Thanks. That's excellent functionality.

Is it? I can see that the other side of the road (Westbound) is D1 motorway at that point, but Eastbound is still the E50 as far as I can tell.
Well, the 'E' road network is comprised of all sorts of roads--road 18 is an 'E' road and then D1 becomes its continuation, briefly counting as a non-motorway (because of the junction I mentioned, where left turns onto the old road aren't possible, meaning that a short stretch of D1 has to be open for non-motorway vehicles because otherwise they'd have nowhere to go). Undoubtedly they already have plans to build the next section of motorway, probably along or close to the old alignment of road 18, but as this sort of project is costly, they're having to hold off for a few years. At that time, they'll build regular motorway-style junctions like the one further up, too.

I was looking at TL, not FRRT. I thought he'd already done it because it gives the distance to CP4 in his hover box, but I see now that he's moving up the climb, not down.

Party on Mt Grappa right now.

Trackleaders is more likely to be correct, no? Also Bjorn doesn't appear to have paused at the bottom of the parcours so CP3 is probably at the top?

• #1560
The picture of CP3 certainly looked like it was in a remote high spot.

Trackleaders is the official tracking site.
The CP3 control is the hotel at the top of the parcours. Official Control Overview Map: http://bit.ly/2tUlVvF (linked from: http://www.transcontinental.cc/resources/ )
frrt scrapes the info from trackleaders, so it will always be behind slightly.

Skinny is where Bjorn was 54 minutes ago so they should see each other. Either going different ways on the climb if Bjorn stays less than an hour, or at the control itself if he stays for more.
(Assuming neither stop between now and then.)

Seems like Bjorn already controlled

He's tripped the trackleaders geofence for being near the control, but he's not there yet...

I've dot watched more than I watched the tour

It's probably shome mishtake in the Trackleaders software. At the other CPs, the climb was after the CP, so perhaps even though CP3 is marked at the top it assumes that anyone who's entered the climb has already been to the control. Also, Juliana's car is only just going up the climb (although I think they were there before), and has only just overtaken Björn.

Thanks for clarifying, I'm a bit too excited, reminds me of when Mike was about to catch Kristof worringly stationary dot in IPWR towards end of the race. Funny to have dots on a map as a memorable sporting moment, but hey, 2017.

If Freeroute can be believed then Bjorn took a nifty shortcut along a forest road while Skinny is keeping to the main highway.

Dot watching becomes a problem when they're climbing up mountains as there's not a good enough view of the sky for a good satellite lock, hence Bjorn's last position update someway off the road and frrt's attempt at interpreting it...

• #1571
Shit, has Skinny turned the wrong way/??
[eejit edit] Relax... close up of that piece of road shows it snakes, so breathe...
-
• #1572
If he's turned left, he's probably going to the shop there.
-
• #1573
Googlemaps shows a shop/s. Probably needs supplies before the climb.
Scratch that - Almost at the foot of the climb now...
-
• #1574
No, just a slightly different route. No extra climbing (which is the main concern), longer but might be a nicer road surface.
We'll see if it has affected the time gap when he gets to the parcours climb and can compare again against Bjorn's trail.

Oh shit, Bjorn has gone haywire.
Still I wouldn't be surprised if the forest route in my post is real... the road seems to be tracked (from street view at each end) and plenty of visible sky. The road up the parcours where Bjorn is now seems to have much more tree cover.
Björn's done CP3, skinny is 10 km away from it.
