Porte followed Roche in the car, saw him crash.
Froome followed Thomas.

Haha brilliant point. But Porte has been a lot slower than Froome on descents as seen in the Dauphine, he's made his bikehandling and risk-taking a weapon. Chapeau.

No porkpie hat. Am disappoint.

Quintana doing his best to say he'll miss Valverde when interviewed after the stage. Inside you know he was pleased, as it means his biggest rival is out of the race.

Until Amador drops him ;)

Froome followed Kwiatkovski, I think. Still better than following Roche. Feels like Froome knows he will need to take time whenever he can if he risked it today.
The Armstrong podcast is pretty dull but I think he was right about Valverde being a possible winner - now we'll never know. -

useful insight in today's racing. thx dude

Just after watching some of todays crashes and they look painful! How long was the forecast for rain? Surely they should have had padded barriers at the bends?

Why was Cummings so far down then? Put all his eggs in the Nationals basket? Doesn't like the wet? Too short a course?
-
• #139
I'm guessing some riders who aren't likely to be troubling GC took it very steadily in the interest of self preservation.
Cummings will get the chance to take a flyer. No responsibilities if Cavendish abandons, though suspect he might surprise people by how long he stays in the race.

Too short a course, and maybe would have preferred summat a little more undulating.
All in all, except for Valverdes off , a good day. Awesome that GT got the win. -

Much sprinter top 20. Wtf. Wowz.

He's a bandit. He'll pick up a stage later on.

I think the race will really miss Valverde, damn shame. Could be the last time we see him race.

Durbridge has abandoned after crashing yesterday. Hopefully means we're spared Carlton Kirby saying Turbo Durbo several times a stage.

It was sad watching the Backstage Pass preview with Durbridge just after hearing that.
The trouble with BS is that the riders come across really well, so whenever something happens to them it seems worse. It brings home all the preparation and hope that goes into it, and how crushing it must be to go out on the first stage.
Are there any other abandons aside from Izaguirre, Durbridge and Valverde?
That made me laugh.
