If it is Silnylon, then Landslide's suggestion of thinning clear silicon with white spirits and painting the gloop on with a foam brush is the best way.
Much cheaper than McNett's Silnet.

Would email Alpkit before you modify it any way, a) might still be under warranty b) they often advise on how to fix it

Thanks @landslide & @kurai that sounds the way to go, I'll contact alpkit too first as suggested by @frankenbike. Ta.

"used once"
Not that good then ;)

Only 170gbp new, so feel they're having it on a bit price wise.
-
• #383
lead time + postage + customs charges I guess
-
• #384
Still having it on really, just trying to minimise their losses.
I mean, I'd like it, but I wont pay 180!
-
• #385
not when you have such a good tent :)
-
• #386
Would be good for some races.
I need to repair the tent, some baffon put small holes in it!

Looks interesting

That does look interesting, and gets rid of my fear of a fox eating my eyes, Which is what I think every time I use my bivi.

Local guy has one - will pass on any reviews

When a Laser Comp is less than a kilo why buy a bivvy?
-
• #391
I'm really not convinced by hooped bivvys. They are always hard to get in/out of and if it rains, they are pretty grim.
They weigh almost or as much as a light tent, the Chinese pole one from AliExpress is about the same and cost.
The only benefits are maybe a tiny bit smaller packed and you can be a bit more stealth. This is rarely enough to justify.
If the weather is great and there are no insects, take a normal bivvy and hope the foxes stay off your eyes. If the weather is average or worse/midges likely, take a tent.

In this case, the appx £200 price difference.
the Chinese pole one from AliExpress is about the same and cost.
Seems a better bet.

I recently got a normal bivvy, having had a similar thought process. Still, interested to see what the person thinks of it.

You can get a Comp for well under £300 nowadays second hand. They are a pretty popular tent after all.

What about a tarp?
Or a good old fashioned bridge or bus shelter.
-

I've got a Vango Helium one person. Pretty sure it's not much more than 1.5kg. Proper tiny tent, but comfortable.
Bivvy bags are just miserable

All look interesting too.
Get some clear silicon sealant (for e.g. bathrooms, kitchens), and thin it down to a brushable liquid with white spirits.
Paint liberally onto seams.
Air the tarp outside for about a week until the odour subsides.
