  • what's the diameter of your fork crown?

What you could do is get someone (possibly me) to draw out a .dwg vector file to take to maklab and have them laser cut some 1mm steel plate which could then be bent into the final shape like the B+M one.

  • I need to measure it. The steerer is 1 1/8" .

Is it a bad idea to try the maklab idea with a 'u' shaped mount using the fender hole at the back of the fork?

  • I don't think you'd need to go to MakLab for that-I'd just buy something like this:

    http://www.screwfix.com/p/mending-plates-zinc-plated-100-x-16-x-10-pack/16050

Drill out for the bolt/washer at the rear to fasten to fork, measure where the bends need to be and pop in a vice to do that nice and cleanly, cut off any remainder. Super cheap and strong and you could bolt on any other clamp you wanted to the front.

Maklab are pretty hands off in terms of helping anyone out if it's not directly related to using the machines-hence why most of the stuff on display ends up being star wars memorabilia relatated : /

  • Fork received. Looks lovely. Realised my f+f needs adaptors and screws for the calipers, and I'm away this weekend. Hopefully build time on Monday.

  • Looking good!

I just got some 316 stainless rod in the mail so give me a shout when you want to think about light mounts.

  • Sounds ideal. Probably sometime this coming week!

  • Build in progress

  • Foiled by a too short outer brake hose. Part II today hopefully.

  • Thinking about cabling. Was putting in brake/gear cables...don't have light mounts yet, but wondering about space for internally routing dynamo cables. As it is, I'm fairly sure I won't be able to fit the cables in the ducts along with the existing outers.

Can I strip the housing from the dynamo lights, squeeze the wires through, then somehow reattach lengths of outers to the exposed wiring outside of the frame?

  • Sounds like a recipe for problems imhop-you're going to get some moisture build up in the frame no matter what you do and you don't want that coming into contact with your exposed wiring.

  • Hook up the dynamo to the brake cable inners and let them conduct you light current.
    Simpler, lighter, win!

  • IIRC with the supernova there is an inner insulation on each wire, he means to strip the outer jacket.

You could take the wire jacket off, I might. Just be very careful, and wary of stripping or cutting the sheithe on the wires accidentally. And I'd get some heat shrink wrap, to put around any exposed parts.

  • Yeah, that's right.

I'll see if there's another way. Just don't want cables ruining what is otherwise a nice clean build.

@drøn that's not actually a thing, is it? The rear connects to the front, which then connects to the hub.

  • It's not a thing you'd want to do.

  • Love the kitchen table. Mine looked like that once, missus wasn't pleased.

  • I'd still be nervous of fragile inners and friction over time if getting wiggled about but if that's was the case it would work at least in the short term. You could always despoil your pristine Ti frame by getting the cable routing holes enlarged a teeny toaty wee bit?

Dynamo wiring rarely looks pretty but think of the function, stash it on the NDS and it won't spoil any insta-pics ;)

  • Hm. I'll see if I can somehow squeeze the outers through. I'm not optimistic though.

@skinny - it's a pal's kitchen table, and luckily his missus is away for the week (although in fairness, she's a cyclist too so might not really mind!)

Should have the build finished tonight. Going to leave steerer uncut til I decide on fit and stem length/angle anyway. Quite a hefty spacer stack on it just now!

  • It would be cool if it worked tho.

  • v+ down the brake cable and v- down the cable outer? This has to be tried!

  • V- through the frame like a motorcycle.

  • you might only need to get a needle file and make a small groove in the internal cable routing boss to get that extra leeway? Worth a bash if you're desperate to have a nice clean set up

  • That's not a bad call. Next thing on my google search "how soft is titanium"

  • badged up.
