  • Shit, you reckon steerer might have suffered damage? That'd suck. Might put it apart and investigate over the weekend. There's no noise or anything weird to report in the past weeks, and I've been riding it daily. Hopefully it was just a bit of stress on the headset, or something.

I'm just annoyed with the stem adaptor setup. Keen to find a front-loading quill stem, 120mm or longer, with a bit of rise. Easy, then.

  • I think it's worth unscrewing headset to find out ...

  • Took it apart, all good. Cleaned, regreased, assembled. Satisfying.

  • Sweet. You got a nicer drive side pic?

  • Er... lowering stem stopped the metallic chomping sound?

Sound very much like the stem adaptor is simply set way too high to begin with.

  • Possibly. It's inserted an inch more than the indicated minimum, but perhaps this indication doesn't take into account such a long stem and wide bars.

In any case, there's a new stem on its way. Will get rid of the adaptor + ahead setup. Maybe then it'll be time for a good picture, @TM.

  • I just won one of these:

So excited! Probably means the diy bars will leave in a cupboard for the time being. I will take a picture of the bike before changing cockpit.
