Further confusion: X-type... wtf? Is that just the name for the splined ring / spider mounting design?

You can always buy mine. Can't wait to get rid of them. :)

Which model, and why the hate?

My current model is the most recent x-type, but I'm using a triple spider as I run dinglespeed and needed the middle and outer positions.
I've had middleburn since the very first model, which used to creak like crazy if I didn't constantly take it off the BB and clean every bit of it. But they were nicely made, so when they updated them after a few years, I had that model... Which also creaked.
I then stupidly got another updated set for my mk 1 surly pugsley fat bike... The uno version... As I wanted to use the one piece spider and ring, and needed an isis compatible crank. To be fair that version was pretty much trouble free.... Which is probably why I then chose the current x-type version for my English... Which has been nothing but trouble. Creaking if not regularly taken off and cleaned, and undoing itself. I've had the crank fall off twice, and then it came so loose that it almost fell off again on the south downs just a few weeks back... So I'm done with them.
I know there will be plenty of people who are happy with them, but for me they've just been a pain in the arse for the most part.
I'm going to try B.O.R cranks next. -

Can anyone here answer my chainline question?
Can anyone change the thread title to reflect the buyout / resurrection? @Skidmark
