I spent far too long thinking 'why don't they just shim it'... :-)
-
• #1178
Haha, if only reverse shimming was a possibility!
-
• #1179
That's why I fitted mine to the top tube!

What speed? Shimano? I have a few sti’s that I would be happy to sell cheap.

Yep, I remember, but how did you solve the cable routing though? Edit: checked your thread, full cable housing. I'll have to measure my top tube's diameter, not sure if that's 28.6 either haha.
@MCamb Very generous, thanks for the offer, but I'm located in Hungary, shipping itself would be killer... 7sp btw.
I'll might grab a 7sp micronew shifter from AliExpress when things go desperate, they're pretty cheapo. But I definitely want to go bodge route before buying anything. -

My clamp had an integrated cable stop so I use full length outer all the way. But you could try to bodge it with brake cable stops if you've got those and use a full-length brake cable?

Will check stuff, thanks!

Some serious hacking there

Thanks, saw this, but this + shipping costs as much as a pair of microshift STIs. :(

the bit where he hit the pins with a hammer whilst holding the mech in his hand, they didn't go in, then the cat turned up was lovely. exactly what I would have done. I've found my spirit mechanic

My mudguard snapped at the brake bridge so I've tried taping it back together (gorilla glue under the tape)
Hoping it's resilient enough for at least another year.

Colour is weird on phone, looks almost like blue wrap on Berthods.

A strip of thin metal and a few pop rivets would do a job there.

I thought this was hacks and bodges not permanent fixes that will definitely last.
Where do people get things like a thin strip of metal though? Mechano?

• #1193
I've done this. Seems fine two years later. Didn't use glue either, just tape.
-
• #1194
Yeah or an old bit of other mudguard or all sorts of places. Just an idea like.

Just had to do something similar, the single mounting point punched through after 3 years of abuse, so bolted a plate either side of the hole. Actually seems more solid

Yes, I'm a huge fan. I love this kind of channel that helps you being more free.

Can I get a full bike pic? Thanks

A mere Genesis Flyer, basically all stock. 28mm Duranos and SKS 35mm matte Bluemels. Cartridge pads really helped improved the clearance.

Some great hacks in here, here's mine:
Recently got a spesh pizza rack, but when loaded with bags etc the beam from my front light gets blocked a bit. So I've 3D printed a neat little mount to go on the eyelet underneath the platform of the rack which solves the problem quite neatly:

Nope, stem is a modern Ahead one.
I've ordered a seatpost collar and a FD clamp adapter (both 31.8) to try bodge my 300LX trigger shifters onto them somehow, but this is just for the lulz, a downtube solution is much more sophisticated and looks way cleaner imo.
