By 'convicted of charges', I was referring to the process in the Senate after an impeachment vote and the subsequent vote to issue changes. If found guilty, there would be a subsequent vote to remove from office. The whole process would take years.

I recently heard Trump biographer David Cay Johnstone explain that few republican politicians will stand up to Trump because "there are people who will put up money to destroy you". Robert Mercer is the leader of those people. But is he really going away or just dropping below the horizon? He is stepping down as chairman of his hedge fund but not selling up. He is seling his stake in Breitbart but only selling it to his daughters. He is "severing all ties" with Milo Yiannopoulos; that shows a touch of sanity but why has it taken so long?

Speculation is he may be standing down to spend more time with his lawyers

The severing of ties with Yiannopoulos is what everyone in the media focuses on (because they love it when one of their own is sacrificed), so that aspect of the story has done it's job.

I believe the Economist reported he sold those assets to his daughters
