Maybe better to get his last term out of the way sooner rather than later, then at least he's gone.
-
• #17753
I really wish I'd gone to bed rather than watching that.
As soon as he walked out, you knew it was going to be bad.
Trump really is batshit though isn't he!
-
• #17754
Aren't there anymore, thought they always had 3 or 4?
Anyway, Biden was a terrible choice from the start, everyone knew it but it's done now, binning him off now makes you look like a joke. Plus he's not stepping aside now, if he was the type of person that put anything before himself he would have stepped aside at the beginning.
Trump always looked like the favourite against Biden, they just need to hope enough anti tumpers come out despite of him.
US politics is fucked either way, there's just no sense that there'll be any grown ups in the political discourse again.

He's already started talking about a third term. I think it's pretty damn clear that if he does get in again, then he and the rest of the Republican Party will start to dismantle American democracy.
-
• #17756
The Democrats can't bin off Biden, because they don't have anyone else lined up to replace him. Harris is a complete non-starter sadly, and the pool of possible presidential candidates is empty.
-
• #17757
I didn't watch the debate and I know this is cherry picked for comedic effect but fuck me
-
• #17758
Trump is the vehicle though, not the driver. If he gets in, project 2025 goes into action, the mechanism of government is dismantled, and the hold of the corporate sponsored chrisofascists becomes almost absolute.

You wonder if next time they will try to turn to charismatic celebrities, rather than political types? That seems to be the game now (to which they are too late again)? But the Republicans will be in the driving seat to force through all changes necessary to make it a one party state.

But also he's a loose cannon and there's at least some chance he turns on people who are now supporting him. See Bannon and Pence.
-
• #17761
^ 100% this. Trump's ego won't accept he's not the guy in charge.
-
• #17762
Fair enough.
You'd have to assume that this has been accounted for, at a strategic and likely tactical level, though.
They've had 4 years to plan, after all.
Make sure you have a solid group of Wormtongues around him at all times*, keep him hopped up on adderall when you need him to perform, and keep him occupied / playing golf / sedated when you dont need him.
* anecdotally, you can get him to say anything by just being the last person that he spoke to.

While this is true, I think it is the kind of thing everyone moves on from after a week.

Time to unveil Tay-tay for president.

Tay Tay and the rock double header

Next debate...
"Here comes the Rock with a steel chair!"

In my opinion, the Trump machine is flailing towards power and the traditional republicans are clinging on for the ride. They may get some stuff through that they want like abortion controls but they're morphing the membership of the party the longer they allow Trump to use them. Before too long the Marjorie Taylor Greenes will out number the Pences. So although Trumps term will be a disaster in many ways, I take some solace in knowing the conniving GOP is killing their own party for 4 more years of struggling to get bills passed while the man they've empowered to do it could turn on them at any second

Just thinking aloud but why doesn't Britain take back over? We handed them a chance & they've spoiled everything.
-
• #17769
I watched a bit of it but couldn't take much. Though it did make me feel slightly better about the Hobson's choice we've got here. Slightly.

• #17770
terrified

• #17771
Also, he surely can’t be doing much presidenting these days having seen that. Guess the system kind of runs itself.
Anyway, hilarious that these two were the ones to float to the top out of 500 million people.

• #17772
No chance for Gavin Newsom?
-
• #17773
Do you really think Trump and the media outlets over there would allow them to move on from, it would be a constant line of attack.
-
• #17774
^ "You were second choice behind dementia Joe", etc.
Absolutely no way this wouldn't be in all the coverage.

The choice is certain defeat with Biden, or probable defeat with someone else.
There isn't going to be a better next debate performance for Biden.
